Kluang RailCoffee

Kluang Railway Station is a major station along the southern KTM line. All trains heading to or from JB Sentral and Woodlands CIQ stop here, whether the train is bound for Kuala Lumpur, Butterworth or Tumpat. The usual station facilities are included, with one very special additional feature.

This famous landmark in the station draws most of the station’s crowd from nearby areas, who are actually not passengers on the next departing train.

Established in 1938, Kluang Railway Station is famous for its freshly brewed coffee, now with a branding known as Kluang RailCoffee. It is rated as West Malaysia’s best coffee consistently. Many copycats such as Kluang Station have sprouted around the country, but Kluang RailCoffee is the original. They only have 4 outlets – one at the station, another nearby the station across the railway corssing, a franchise in the town area, and one at Batu Caves, Selangor. Don’t waste your time on the copycat brands.

The best seats is in the original shop itself opposite the ticket counter, but there is additional outdoor seating as well when it gets full, which is almost all the time.

Their menu at the original location is not expensive, but more than sufficient for a tea break.

Roti Bun Bakar (RM1.10/SGD0.41)
Toasted bun with butter and kaya

And of course their famous coffee, which I forgot to take a picture of because the weather was too hot and my iced coffee was too good.

Kopi Susu (RM1.20/SGD0.45 hot; RM1.50/SGD0.56 iced)
Coffee with condensed milk

As good as it gets, no baristas or coffee machines are here to customise any drinks for you. Only traditional orders accepted.

And no toasters to toast your bread too. Your orders are grilled on charcoal over here.

You could catch the train here for breakfast or tea, or one may rumble by during your meal if you drive or take the bus.

This unsuspecting station coffee shop is an attraction in itself and worthy of a day trip just to eat there. Of course, you would also want to explore the town a little for photo-taking or local product shopping.

The original Kluang RailCoffee at Kluang Railway Station is open from Friday to Wednesday, 7am to 12pm and 2.30pm to 6pm. They are closed on Thursdays.
