Honorable Eternal Stationmaster Tama’s Funeral

Tama the feline stationmaster’s funeral was held this afternoon at Kishi station, which was attended by 3000 fans. Wakayama Electric Railway president Mitsunobu Kojima said Tama “emerged like a savior, and that he is honored to have worked with her”.

Tama saved the near-bankrupt railway after it laid off it’s last station staff, and brought in more than JPY 1.1 billion worth of revenue after her appointment as stationmaster. At her funeral, she received her final promotion to Honorable Eternal Stationmaster, succeding her former titles as Stationmaster, Super Stationmaster, Ultra Stationmaster and Vice-President. She also became a goddess under the Shinto religion.

Tama will be enshrined at a nearby cat shrine next month. Her duties are succeeded by Assistant Stationmaster Nitama, another calico cat, formerly at Idakiso station.
