Day 8: Cassis

Cassis is a seaside holiday town about half an hour’s drive from Marseille. It’s particularly famous for its architecture, cliffs and calanques.

Similar to Marseille, many boat owners dock their boats here, though some provide a charter service to visit the calanques.

Most of the the streets near the bay are for pedestrians only, which made for a pleasant walk around the shops and markets.

Though sometimes they will let cars in for those who have reservations at certain restaurants and parking there, or need access to the yatch club, so be careful. The drivers usually drive along the roads here slower than you would walk away from them though.

Stalls set up along the streets as part of the market.

Walking down the beach, there were not many people relaxing as compared to those shopping at the market, but probably because the weather was pretty eratic at that time.

From the lighthouse, you will be able to see Cap Canaille, the highest sea cliff in France.

Driving up Route des Crêtes, we were able to get a scenic view of Cassis from Cap Canaille.

You’ll never be able to get such a view near Singapore.

Thus concluding my stay in southern France. Next city, Rome.
