Hotel Review: Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar • Affordable and Conveniently-Located Hotel at BSB Bus Terminal and BSB Waterfront

Qing Yun Resthouse is probably the cheapest hotel chain in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. In a city where there aren’t many places to overnight in the first place, this is like a hidden gem since it’s also not available on most booking websites. I opted to stay at their Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar branch which is near the the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, BSB Waterfront and Kampong Ayer.

Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar is located just opposite the road from BSB Waterfront, and the bus stop for cross-border buses to Limbang, Lawas, Kota Kinabalu and Miri in Malaysia. Coming in from the bus from KK, it was just across the road to Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar.

Access to Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar is up the staircase.

The Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar is on the 3rd Floor.

Another hotel, Joy Downtown Rest-Station, is on the 2nd Floor, which is actually the cheapest place to stay in Brunei, but based on quality, Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar is more of an actual hotel standard.

Continue up the stairs to Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar.

Enter the door to Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar, which is unlocked from 9am to 11pm. (The door is unlocked by the room key card outside of these hours.)

The reception counter of Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar.

Beside the reception counter, there is another entrance, presumably the front entrance.

The entrance has an elevator, which is on the BSB Bus Terminal side (ie. back side) of the building.

Inside the Standard Super Single room of Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar. The Standard Super Single room costs B$40 (S$40) per night.

Under the Currency Interchangeability Agreement, the Brunei dollar is interchangeable with the Singapore dollar at par (B$1 = S$1).

An iron and ironing board is provided in the room.

There is a conveniently-located side table beside the bed with a phone, switches and a universal charging socket.

2 cups of mineral water are provided in the room.

A hairdryer and TV is also available.

An open wardrobe is provided behind the main door.

The design is pretty compact but efficient for a solo traveller.

The toilet features a rain shower mounted on the ceiling.

Overall, it was a rather comfortable stay at the second cheapest hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Qing Yun Resthouse also operates 4 other hotels in Gadong, Times Square area and Delima Satu at similar prices, so this might be the best option for an affordable stay in a city where there’s not many hotels to begin with.
