Sipitang Express/Jesselton Express: Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Boarding Guide (Bus to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia)

Sipitang Express is one of the popular bus operators in Sabah, and the only one to offer the international Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) – Kota Kinabalu bus service under their subsidiary Jesselton Express. This journey is probably one of the most unique bus journeys in the world, departing once daily, which gives you a whopping 8 immigration stamps in your passport when on the full route from BSB to KK, crossing Brunei-Muara, eastern Sarawak (Limbang), into Temburong on the mountainous eastern part of Brunei, back into Sarawak (Lawas), and finally crossing western Sabah onwards to KK.

Tickets are sold under Sipitang Express for the Jesselton Express Kota Kinabalu – Bandar Seri Begawan bus service. Tickets can be purchased off Easybook about one month before this journey for RM100, or on the spot for B$45 (~RM136.54), but you risk not having a seat if you buy it on the spot since there is only one such bus daily, and seats may already be reserved for passengers boarding from Limbang or Lawas.

The Jesselton Express picks up passengers at the dedicated bus stand at BSB Waterfront along Jalan McArthur, just before the Royal Wharf. If purchasing tickets on the spot, prepare B$45 for the driver by the door, and he will issue you your ticket. If you have purchased your ticket from Easybook, prepare your Easybook printout.

The bus stop is in front of Qing Yun Resthouse Bandar.

In case you show up early before the bus, the bus stop is demarcated with a lay-by and a brown sign saying “Bas Pelancong Sahaja”, so look out for it.

The Jesselton Express Kota Kinabalu – Bandar Seri Begawan bus service departs from BSB Waterfront at 8am daily. Remember to show up on time, as the bus departs on time, and there is only one such bus service daily.
