The Penambang or Water Taxi is a key mode of transportation for getting to and around Kampong Ayer in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Kampong Ayer, as the name suggests, is a water village built along the Brunei River which is just opposite the present day downtown of Bandar Seri Begawan, and is a popular destination – in fact a must-visit when in Bandar Seri Begawan.

There were some Penambang owners along Waterfront Bandar Seri Begawan. After confirming that the fare was B$1 (S$1), I hopped on to the one who called out for my business.

The Penambang travels really fast across the Brunei River, with lots of wind blowing into my face. I think the ride takes less than 1 minute.

There is a big pier to cater to a few Penambangs at any one time.

My Penambang then heads back out to the river to find more customers calling out for their business.

Overall, a quick and easy ride across the Brunei River with many Penambangs standing by on the Waterfront Bandar Seri Begawan side, with not much waiting time for the quick cross-river commute.
