Ekspres Selatan 45dn: Pulau Sebang (Tampin) to Gemas by Night Train

45dn Tampin Gemas 001

Ekspres Selatan 45dn is the overnight KTM Intercity train from Pulau Sebang (Tampin) to Johor Bahru Sentral, departing at 9.05pm. Continuing on down south, I got on this night KTM Intercity train after transferring from the KTM Komuter Klang Valley Sector 2053dn from KL Sentral.

This is part of my journey from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore by train, taking 18 hours and 50 minutes. Follow this train journey from the links below:

There seems to be a free on-demand shuttle from Pulau Sebang (Tampin) Railway Station to A’Famosa Resort now too.

For the short Pulau Sebang (Tampin) to Gemas sector, you can usually buy your ticket on the spot with no problems as Ekspres Selatan trains only fill up from Gemas or Segamat onwards.

My ticket for the Ekspres Selatan 45dn ride from Pulau Sebang (Tampin) to JB Sentral. I had originally booked the ride for the full journey, but I decided that arriving in JB Sentral at 2.33am after a night time journey in darkness on a seat wasn’t such a good idea after all and questioned myself on why I had decided to do it in the first place. Hence, I got off at Gemas instead.

On top of an immense amount of legroom, I also get a personal power socket*. This is a trade-off with a terrible window view, but it’s not like I could see anything for this night journey anyway.

*Only newer batches of ASC (Hyundai-Padu Sedia) coaches have a power socket beside Seats 1D and 15A.

Here, I walked on to check-in to my hotel for the night.

Overall, a good short hop on the Ekspres Selatan 45dn though it’s pretty expensive now that the KTM Komuter Klang Valley Sector no longer serves Batang Melaka and Gemas, and the PLC part of the CMB ticket remains constant regardless of journey distance. Also, I did pay for a full RM25 fare to JB Sentral. Oh well, I’ll just treat it as donation to KTM to help out their finances.
