Citybus Service S56: Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1 (香港國際機場一號客運大樓) to Tung Chung MTR Station (東涌港鐵站) by Bus

Citybus S56 Airport Tung Chung 001

After arriving from my Singapore Airlines SQ860 flight, I decided to go to the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car immediately to kick start my trip to save some travelling time from the city later on, since Tung Chung is just a neighbouring town from Hong Kong International Airport. To get there, I decided to find the frequent S1 bus. Yes, this introduction doesn’t match the title of the post, but I’ll get to that soon.

The signs at the Airport Ground Transportation Centre showing the location of the various buses. Seems like the S1 stop has shifted further down from the last time I used it.

While waiting, the Citybus S56 puled up at the bus stop in front. As it is heading to Tung Chung too, I decided to go and catch that instead.

The Citybus S56 bus fare costs HK$3.50 too, same as the S1. As usual, I paid by Octopus.

Tung Chung MTR Station and Citygate Outlets are just ahead.

Overall, a quick, cheap and efficient way to get from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Tung Chung MTR Station. It is worth noting that the S56 bus offers the fastest journey from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Tung Chung MTR Station with only 3 stops, but is the least frequent service at 30 minute intervals as compared with the S1 at 7.5 minute intervals on a weekday off-peak period.

I would recommend simply getting on the first bus you see arriving to get to Tung Chung, be it the S1, S56 or S64, so that you can be on the move as early as possible, since the waiting time for a faster bus might just cancel the journey time out on this short journey.
