The KTM North South Route spans the entire length of Peninsular Malaysia from Padang Besar in the north and JB Sentral in the south, passing through the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. KTM also serves international destinations across the north and south borders to Hat Yai in Thailand and Woodlands CIQ in Singapore respectively.
The full length of the Malaysian section of the North South Route is electrified and double tracked with the exception of the section between Gemas and JB Sentral, which should be completed by 2020.
KTM Intercity trains which currently ply the North South Route include:
- International Express (Bangkok – Butterworth)
- Ekspres Selatan (Pulau Sebang (Tampin) – Gemas – JB Sentral)
- Shuttle Tebrau (JB Sentral – Woodlands CIQ)
Frequent ETS services also serve the North South Route on the electrified double track sectors between Padang Besar and Gemas.
