Shuttle Tebrau Empty Causeway 008

KTM Shuttle Tebrau

The Shuttle Tebrau (地不佬接驳火车/டெப்ராவ் ஷட்டில்) is a highly-popular cross-border train service between Woodlands CIQ, Singapore and JB Sentral, Malaysia. Launched on 1 July 2015, the Shuttle Tebrau transports passengers across the Causeway in only 5 minutes.

Despite the short journey time and high fare in relation to the distance travelled, passengers who wish for such a fuss-free border crossing will have to camp online to purchase their Shuttle Tebrau tickets the moment it opens for sale as popular tickets sell out almost instantly.

With the inception of the Shuttle Tebrau, all other KTM Intercity services originate and terminate at JB Sentral, and will not proceed on to Woodlands CIQ effective 1 July 2015.

Shuttle Tebrau Universal Access Information (for Passengers-in-Wheelchair/OKU)

Can I bring my baby stroller or wheelchair on board the KTM Shuttle Tebrau train?

There is no definite answer in the terms and conditions of carriage of passengers on KTM’s website, but I have seen strollers on board the train many times and there is a discount offered to the disabled on all KTM services excluding the Shuttle Tebrau so that can be taken as an acceptance of carriage. However, many think (and probably you as well) that it is a roll-on roll-off loading of the baby stroller or wheelchair like an MRT. The coaches for KTM Intercity trains are designed for low platforms unlike the modern high platforms you may see at Woodlands CIQ, JB Sentral, stations on the electrified double-track sectors and other upgraded stations along the East Coast Line, hence there is a wide platform gap due to the steps below the doors. It is certainly not an MRT, nor is it meant to operate like one.

The platform gap is approximately 40cm wide.

The platform gap as shown in the picture is approximately 40cm wide.

For passengers with prams or baby strollers, you should carry your baby and fold your stroller to board the train.

For wheelchair-bound passengers, a folding ramp may be provided to assist boarding and alighting at both Woodlands CIQ and JB Sentral stations, however, due to the slim design of the door towards the seating cabin, the passenger-in-wheelchair may only be able to stay at the deck after the entrance door.

The folding ramp at JB Sentral for passengers in wheelchair.
A passenger in wheelchair disembarking from the Shuttle Tebrau.

I have seen four men carry up a wheelchair with a passenger in it from a low platform station in Kelantan, so anything which requires lesser effort than that should be fine. You can store your baby stroller in the front corner of the seating cabin.

Shuttle Tebrau Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I get to Woodlands Train Checkpoint (Woodlands CIQ) by bus?

Click here for directions to Woodlands Train Checkpoint.

When do KTM Shuttle Tebrau tickets open for sale?

KTM Shuttle Tebrau train tickets are open for sale in set periods about 1 to 4 weeks before departure.

How do I buy KTM Shuttle Tebrau tickets?

Click here for a step-by-step guide to book your KTM Shuttle Tebrau train ticket online on the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS).

How do I get to Woodlands Train Checkpoint (Woodlands CIQ) by direct MRT?

There is no direct MRT station directly linking to Woodlands Train Checkpoint. You need a bus transfer to Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Click here for directions to Woodlands Train Checkpoint.

Why is someone sitting in my seat?

The Shuttle Tebrau is free seating. This is clearly stated on your ticket.

Why am I paying GST? (actual question)

There is no GST paid for all KTM trains. If you notice the numbers after the word “GST”, you will see “0%” and “MYR 0.00” or “SGD 0.00”. Do take the time read the whole line of text rather than just the word “GST”.

Where is my Nasi Lemak? (also an actual question, believe it or not)

The “N” after the word “Makanan” or “Meal” on the ticket probably stands for “NO”, and most definitely not Nasi Lemak or your favourite Malaysian rice dish. The meals portion is listed in the ticket for services on the Koc Selesa or the Eastern Holiday excursion train, where a “Y” will be stated. Even if there is food provided in the Shuttle Tebrau, you would probably have arrived at your destination even before the meal service can commence.

Can I bring my luggage on the Shuttle Tebrau?

Yes. There are luggage racks on board the ASC (INKA), as well as overhead luggage racks above seats. On the ASC (Hyundai-Padu Sedia) and ASC (ICF-Padu Sedia), there are overhead luggage racks above seats.  Do note that the type of coaches used may be swapped out for operational reasons.

Are there porters, luggage check-in facilities or lockable baggage racks on the Shuttle Tebrau?

No.

Why doesn’t the Shuttle Tebrau run frequently like an MRT since it is only a 5-minute ride each way?

Woodlands Train Checkpoint does not allow for a bi-directional passenger flow – it can cater to only arrivals or departures at any one time. The 55 minutes turnaround time at Woodlands Train Checkpoint allows just enough time for an arrival train to be processed by ICA and Singapore Customs for both passengers and train quarantine, have the immigration system reversed for departure, handover passengers to JIM and JKDM, and finally for the train to depart after all passengers have cleared both Singapore and Malaysia immigration.

As such, the current timetable seems to be the maximum frequency that trains can run each day.

However, during morning peak periods, there is an increased frequency of 30 minutes when there is no northbound passengers as time is saved without the need for ICA to reverse the system for departure.

Click here to read about how I think the KTM Shuttle Tebrau frequency can be increased to 30 minutes!

Fun fact: Did you know that a pair of Shuttle Tebrau-s have to be cancelled if there is an E&O arrival or departure?

What is the latest time I have to enter the gates for immigration for the Shuttle Tebrau?

From JB Sentral: Shuttle Tebrau boarding gates open 30 minutes before departure time and close 10 minutes before departure time.

From Woodlands CIQ: Shuttle Tebrau boarding gates open 40 minutes before departure time and close 20 minutes before departure time.

What time does ticket sales close for the Shuttle Tebrau?

Assuming that there are tickets left for sale, the ticket counter will stop selling Shuttle Tebrau tickets 20 minutes before departure time.

How many Shuttle Tebrau tickets can I buy per transaction?

Click here for a step-by-step guide to book your KTM Shuttle Tebrau train ticket online on the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS).

How many seats are there in a train for Shuttle Tebrau?

There are 320 tickets for sale on each Shuttle Tebrau train, but 240 actual seats on board (80 standing).

What is the minimum passport expiry date or passport validity for travelling from JB Sentral to Woodlands or from Woodlands to JB Sentral?

Passports should have at least 30 days validity from the day of travel for the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS), but should ensure that passports have at least six months’ validity from the day they leave Singapore or Malaysia to avoid any inconvenience.

What is the child fare for the Shuttle Tebrau?

There is no child fare for the Shuttle Tebrau. However, children under 4 years old can travel for free upon registration at the ticket counter before departure. Children over 4 years old will be required to purchase a regular ticket.

How can I change passenger details or travel date on my Shuttle Tebrau ticket?

You cannot change passenger details or travel date on my Shuttle Tebrau ticket. You can only cancel it and buy a new one.

Pay the counter staff you just cancelled your Shuttle Tebrau ticket from or buy a new Shuttle Tebrau ticket on the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) website, assuming tickets are still available for your preferred date and time.

Why does the Shuttle Tebrau charge an unfair pricing of S$5 from Singapore but only RM5 from JB?

This fare structure is in accordance with the cross-border bus and train fare arrangement at the end of the Interchangeability Agreement on 8 May 1973 where passengers pay in Malaysian Ringgit or Singapore Dollars depending on the country of departure. As KTM Berhad is a transport operator serving Malaysia-Singapore cross-border transport in 1973, the rule still applies today.

Other public transport operators who practice this same pricing structure includes, but not limited to, SBSTransit for bus 160, 170, and 170X for cash fares only, SMRT for bus 950 for cash fares only, the Singapore-Johore Express (SJE), and Causeway Link bus CW1, CW2, CW3, CW3E, CW3L, CW3S, CW4, CW4G, CW4S, CW5, and CW7. Other operators or bus services may have slightly differing fares based on the fare number value excluding the currency exchange rate.

A Walkthrough of the Shuttle Tebrau Journey

How do I board the Shuttle Tebrau?

I would love to give you a walk-through of Woodlands Train Checkpoint with pictures as requested by many but photography is prohibited in the checkpoint. I hope the guide below will be descriptive enough for you.

How do I get from 🇸🇬 Woodlands CIQ to 🇲🇾 JB Sentral?

  1. To find out how to get to Woodlands Train Checkpoint by public transport, click here.
  2. Purchase your ticket when it opens till 20 minutes before departure (if available till then).
  3. Proceed up the staircase or elevator from the ticket counter.
  4. Cross the bridge where there will be a queue area running the entire length of the bridge, leading to a glass door.
  5. A KTM staff will be at the glass door scanning your PASSPORT and TICKET from 40 minutes until 20 minutes before departure. The gate will close 20 minutes before departure.
  6. Follow the straight path to Singapore immigration.
  7. After clearing Singapore immigration, exit out of the door with signs pointing to Malaysian Immigration (it’s Door 5 if you really wish to know, but it would be the only unlocked and very visible door – another straight path).
  8. Washrooms are available along this path.
  9. Proceed for Malaysian immigration followed by customs. No immigration cards needed to enter Malaysia, just proceed with your passport (and visa if required).
  10. A waiting area will be immediately after the x-ray machines with ample seats and another washroom, but most of the time you can proceed straight out to the platform and to the train.
  11. Remember, photography is prohibited anywhere in Woodlands Train Checkpoint.
  12. Enjoy your 5 minute ride across the causeway.
  13. Pro-tip: The escalator at JB Sentral will be near the middle of the train.
  14. Upon arrival at JB Sentral, simply get on the escalator from the platform and be on your way – welcome to Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
  15. If you have an onward connecting train north of JB Sentral, you can ask available staff  (if any) for directions straight to your train on the platform, or you can head upstairs to the concourse area, where you can queue for ticket checking for your connecting train at the same place where the upward escalator ends at Gate B. This will take 5 minutes maximum.

How do I get from 🇲🇾 JB Sentral to 🇸🇬 Woodlands CIQ?

  1. Purchase your ticket when it opens till 20 minutes before departure (if available till then).
  2. Proceed to Gate A which is on the left of the waiting area behind the ticket counters. If in doubt, follow one of the many signs saying Shuttle Tebrau, Woodlands or Singapore, or the very prominent line of passengers, but NOT any touts asking you if you wish to go to Singapore – they are “freelance private car operators” and no, they are not GrabCar or Uber either.
  3. Scan ONLY your PASSPORT at the BLUE passport gates from 30 minutes until 10 minutes before departure. The gate will STRICTLY close 10 minutes before departure AUTOMATICALLY.
  4. Proceed down the escalator after ticket checking to Malaysian immigration and customs. You will see 2 sides of immigration counters on your left and right. Proceed to any side.
  5. After clearing immigration and customs, you will find a waiting area with many people queuing already, but plenty of empty seats. Go ahead and have a seat if you wish, the journey is only 5 minutes. It’s not necessary to find a good seat for a 5 minute journey. Washrooms are also available in this waiting area.
  6. Around 5 to 10 minutes before departure, the door to the platform will open with a rush of passengers trying to presumably secure a good seat. Follow the rush if you wish, but it’s really not necessary. The escalator down to the platform is in front of this door.
  7. Choose your favourite seat on the train or just stand for 5 minutes.
  8. Pro-tip: Getting a place at the end of the train gets you first in line at Woodlands Train Checkpoint for Singapore immigration and customs clearance and you can exit the checkpoint within 3 minutes if you have fulfilled all immigration and customs obligations.
  9. Enjoy your 5 minute ride across the causeway.
  10. Upon arrival at Woodlands Train Checkpoint, remember that photography is prohibited anywhere in Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Immigration will be near the rear end of the train.
  11. Pro-pro-tip: The last person to clear immigration and customs will make it out of Woodlands Train Checkpoint and into the taxi or bus 15 minutes after arrival. It’s really not necessary to rush. I’ve tried many times.
  12. After immigration, empty your pockets and proceed for Singapore customs clearance. You will see 2 lanes, the Green Lane for those who have nothing to declare, and the Red Lane, for those who need to declare anything. You can proceed to any lane if you have nothing to declare. If you need to declare something, proceed to the Red Lane and inform the officer there (or ring the bell in the highly unlikely event that there is no one there for a minute).
  13. Washrooms and a water cooler are available on the left after the x-ray machines. You need not queue at the water cooler to fill up your water bottle, Singapore’s water is safe to drink from the tap.
  14. If a break is not needed, just head straight out to an upward escalator, which will lead you across the bridge and down the staircase to the ticket counter, taxi stand or bus stop for your onward journey – welcome to Singapore.

        1. You will need a reference number or ticket ID to reprint your ticket at the counter. I suggest you login again and check if there are any bookings in your account. If there are no confirmed bookings, try calling your bank to check if the transaction went through. If it did, you can email to KTM at callcenter@ktmb.com.my for refund procedures.

          1. Hi thanks for your swift reply,
I couldn’t retrieve any transaction history.
I called my bank & they said the transaction went thru.
Thus I have emailed to the add u Hv given , hopefully I will get an answer on times

  6. I bought a return ticket online from Woodlands-JB-woodlands. It has a seat number. Is this free seating ? Does the seat number matters?

  7. Do we clear both side immigration together with others bus tourists? Heard if from woodland train checkpoint, is to clear both country immigration at there before proceed to train. How about from JB Sentral to Woodland?

  8. I tried booking the e-ticket for 1.30pm 25 March 16 but I can’t add new passengers cause they prompted me to add slot number. What is slot number? Also, I can’t select “Seat Available” icon

    1. Slot number is your coach and seat number. Click on it, in the drop down menu there will be 4 “coaches”, . , .. , – and –. From there, pick any seat number and save. The actual train is free seating, this is just to ensure a ticket limit of 320 is set per train.

  9. Hi there, do i have to check in early(you know like those flights procedure) for the train if lets say my train departs at 1pm?

  10. Can I buy two way tickets in advance at the counter at jb? If that is possible may I know how much will it be?

  11. Can I check how long does it take to commute from Woodlands CIQ to JB Sentral, inclusive of the passing through of immigration? Say if I bought on 10pm, reaching JB by 10.05pm, will I be able to make it to my intercity train on 10. 30pm?

    1. You need to enter the gate of Woodlands CIQ by 9.45pm, it’s where your ticket will be checked. You will arrive in JB Sentral at 10.05pm where you have a 25 minute window to change platforms (which takes probably 2 minutes) , or if you are unsure, go up to the departure gate and u turn back down again after checking with the staff (which should take around 5 minutes). You will definitely make your connection as the same Shuttle Tebrau will depart from JB Sentral for Woodlands CIQ at 10.15pm.

      1. Hi, I think what Brendan meant was, if he reaches JB Sentral at 10.05pm, will he be able to catch the intercity train (say frm JB Sentral to KL Sentral) which departs at 10.30pm?

I have similar question too. My train from JB Sentral to KL Sentral departs at 5pm, however frm Woodlands to JB Sentral I could either choose the 1.30pm or 4.30pm session… if I choose 4.30pm, will I be able to catch the train at 5pm to KL Sentral?

        1. Immigration and customs for both Singapore and Malaysia will be cleared at Woodlands CIQ before departure, hence all procedures would be settled upon arrival at JB Sentral. Similarly, you will also have a 25 minute window to change trains at JB Sentral should you wish to take the 4.30pm Shuttle Tebrau to connect to the 5pm Ekspres Peninsular.

  12. I book online ticket. Ticket from JB sentral to woodlands but accidentally key in the wrong IC no: For example: T1234567E but I key in T1243567E. Is it ok? How should I go about it?

  13. For JB Sentral-Woodlands, How long would you suggest the duration from Gate A to clearing custom & immigration to the waiting area/boarding the train?

  14. I have booked online train ticket JB – Woodlands CIQ, before departure do I need to proceed ticket counter for re-confirm ticket or just bring printed copy to proceed gate?

  15. Hi, Can i purchase ticket at Woodlands CIQ for JB-Woodlands instead of purchasing at
    JB SENTRAL.

  16. Hi, I have purchased 4 tickets on 18th June from Singapore to Johor and 19th June from Johor to Singapore. Can I change the date? Who do I contact in Singapore?

  17. Hi , can i check with you , i bought 6 tickets from JB sentral to gemas , and 6 tickets from Woodlands to JB sentral , of which 2 of my kids’ identity numbers i keyed wrongly , i called all their customer hotlines that i can find on google , its either no answer , or they will just hang up if the line get thru :(. I even emailed to a few of their email add but got no reply at all in the 2 weeks that i emailed . I wanted to change to the correct identity numbers so badly , cos im going with my brother and it him who is paying for us , so dun wan him to know i made a mistaken in the booking details , so would u be able to suggest wat else can i do to get in touch with the customer service officer ? i will be travelling on the 20th jun , Thanks a million in advanced !!

  18. oh ya , i remembered using an online chat with a customer service officer in one of the website , but i couldn’t recall which website it is , do u hv any idea ? thanks !!

  19. Hi.. if i do not have a printer to print tickets, can I go to the counter at woodlands to get it printed? Or can i jus show a screenshot on my hp? Tq.

  20. Thank you for your kind and detailed description!
Really, no need to change any details, just proceed with the trip.

    Ha Ha ^___________^

  21. Hi, is a ticket required for kids below 2yrs old? Couldn’t find the info anywhere. And is it possible to buy a return tix online? Thanks!

    1. Tickets for children below 4 years old are not required. Child tickets are required for those 4 to 12 years old, thereafter adult fares apply.

Please scroll up back to the post for online return ticket options.

  22. Good Day to you,

I’m just trying my luck to check with you if you happen to know on mass ticket purchase.

The thing is that i have plans to arrange around 45 guests from singapore for my wedding dinner in jb and i’ve heard that from 1st July 2016 onwards, passenger’s details will be registered on the tickets and they will need to present their passport for inspection.

    – Will it be possible to purchase such no. of tickets at one goal at the counters?
    – If so, i will need all my guest’s details in order to purchase the tickets?

    Thank you for your time~

By the way, you have an awesome blog!

    1. You can get your tickets at the counter or online, no problem. If you buy it online from Easybook, just make sure each passenger’s names are different. I don’t think you need more details on 12Go Asia. If you buy it on KTM’s website, you need all passenger details.

  23. hi, i just bought the ticket online and I have the email and pdf for the ticket.
Instead of printing the ticket out, can I download to my iPad and show them at the entrance instead of the print?

    1. You have to print it out for the actual ticket at the station, not an A4 paper you get at home. You can try to show the ticket on your iPad, it may or may not be accepted. Do let me know of the outcome.

      1. oic, what do u mean print out the actua; ticket at the station, “not an A4 paper”?
So the ticket email i received, how should I print it out? sorry kinda confused here.

        1. You may or may not wish to print it out at home. You will have to exchange it for the actual ticket at the railway station to board the train, whether it’s by showing the ticket ID on your iPad or by printing the ticket at home.

  24. hi
Can we still book online through Easybook from 1st December 2016 ?
Thank you and your blog is very informative !

  25. Thanks.

You seem to travel a lot on Tebrau Shuttle so what do you think will be the 2 best times to travel ( one in the morning and one in the afternoon ) on weekdays – both SG to JB and JB to SG ?

Example SG To JB : 10 am and 1.30 pm and JB to SG :9 am and 3.30 pm . Would it be safe during these weekday timings to arrive at the station and buy a ticket about 30 minutes before departure ?

Thanks once again for your site and support

    1. I’m assuming you’re travelling after 1 December 2016.

Well it all depends on your own schedule, really. You shouldn’t base your journey on off-peak Shuttle Tebrau trains as these trains don’t offer you the best departure times, which is why they aren’t popular anyway. The popular trains sell out easily so it’s also difficult for me to suggest accurately as the actual queues have not formed.

  26. Hi,
I’m referring to your latest update on 3 Dec, does it mean we can buy online now for advanced booking? Tried to book on easybook but stated ‘no trips found’. Appreciate your kind response.

  27. I have online booking train on 05/12/2016 from JB Sentral to Singapore CIQ for 2 ticket depart on 26/12/2016 19:00, after payment done there is no ticket show to me, webpage was show can not open webpage and payment already deducted from my account, my e-ticket account also don’t have such ticket, please help.

        1. As mentioned in the page above:

“Please note that RailTravel Station is not a KTM or any other train company’s website. It is simply my personal travel blog. I cannot act on your complains as I am not KTM. In fact, you have probably seen me on the Shuttle Tebrau and other KTM trains, just that you wouldn’t have known. Please bear with the information provided here as I am also a passenger just like you. Though it’s still not perfect, I believe that it is currently more than sufficient. Feedback is always appreciated, but please do not fault me as I do not run the trains. You can always visit KTM’s website but if you’ve been there, you will know why you are here in the first place.”

  28. Hi, thanks for yr sharing. Read few websites that said train ticket from Woodlands to JB Sentral no longer to purchase online. Rather confusing. So which websites can I purchase the tickets now? I check ktmb webite no aval tickets but easybook website they hv tickets. Why is it so?

  29. None of the booking agent links you shared seem to have tickets for SG-JB even for 30 days later. It doesn’t seem that sales of Shuttle Tebrau tickets has been reverted back to 30 days advance booking through all platforms including online sales.

    1. It means tickets are sold out. You should book your tickets 30 days in advance. Do take note of the precise date as popular trains sell out around 2 hours after opening at 8.30am.

      1. Just checked again at 8.40am on the agent sites and even for 30 days away there are no trips found. However I tried KTMB and got my shuttle tickets to JB for 17 Dec and received my booking. So the KTMB site seems to be working best.

    1. I just checked all my agent links, BusOnlineTicket and Easybook is not working, but 12Go Asia is. Maybe you can book from there next time so you need not pay the additional RM2 surcharge from KTM.

      1. 12GoAsia also shows tickets unavailable for 30 days away. Also shows unavailable for 17 Dec when there are still tickets available on KTM site for that date! So seems like it’s better to book via KTM even with the RM2 surcharge.

  30. Ticket from Singapore to JB.. How many can i bought the ticket.. Is it limited to 4 ticket per person?

    Thanks

    Sidek

  31. Hi,

Regarding the e-ticket needs to be verified and validated at the ticket counter before heading to the boarding gate which you have stated in your blog, however at Easybook FAQ, I don’t need to go the ticket counter to show my e-ticket and can straight board the train. So which one should I follow? Thanks.

  32. Hi,

Thanks for the informative post above. Really appreciate it.

However, do you have any idea why 30 days advance tickets for weekday early morning trains 63, 65, 67 and 69 are not available on the external agent websites such as Easybook and 12Go?

And another thing I noticed when I attempted to purchase 30 days advance tickets from KTMB website, is that they are always fully booked even though I camped at 8.30am for the tickets to be released.

    Thank you so much!

  33. Hi, thank you for this detailed article!

I’ve checked for two-way tickets in February 2017 on both Easybook and 12Go, however tickets are only available on Easybook and not 12Go. Is there a reason why?

Also, I’ve checked for reviews on Easybook online but those available were negative reviews. How reliable is Easybook? (Any readers able to verify?)

    Thank you!

    1. Easybook’s system seems to be now linked directly to KTM’s system, so it may receive the slots faster than 12Go Asia. I book my tickets via Easybook most of the time whenever I book tickets in advance.

  34. Thank you for your prompt response.

I have made payment for 2 x one-way tickets to JB Sentral (received tax invoice email as well as SMS transaction alert of payment). Just to confirm, I have my e-ticket printed out but still require verification / physical ticket from ticketing officer yes?

Also, due to the travel period being less than two weeks, I believe the return tickets (of a later timing) on a weekend has been completely sold out on all agent sites. Any recommendations on other modes of public transport to return to SG? I.e. which bus services and what is the non-peak period to depart JB on Sunday?

    Look forward to your reply!

        1. Hi there, just one more question… If the departure time is 10:05am on a Friday, what time approx should I reach WTC to clear immigration? Thank you!

            1. “A KTM staff will be at the glass door checking your tickets from 30 minutes till 15 minutes before departure. The gate will close 15 minutes before departure.”

30 mins include waiting time at immigration? Thank you!

  35. Hi there,

May I know how is the situation like now? Can we purchase tickets for an instant ride like the MRT? Thanks..

    Sincerely,
    Ernest

  36. Is the A4 paper e-ticket we printed out a valid ticket for boarding? Do we still need proceed to counter for printing a valid actual ticket? Plan to book one way ticket from Woodland CIQ to JB Sentral. Thanks

  37. Hi..

Can I bring baby stroller on the train?
    I have tandem (front-back) style.
If not, can I bring normal stroller (1 seat)?

  38. Hi,

Does it matter if I print the KTM tickets from easy book.com in Colour or black and white? I would still need to validate this at the KTM counter right?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. It doesn’t matter. In fact, I usually just copy the code to my notes in my phone and show that to the ticket counter to reprint my ticket. But only do this method if you know which code to use.

      1. Hi, can share which code to use? Are you referring to the Reference / Ticket Id on the easybook ticket?

        Thanks.

  39. Hi, i’m following your advice in this article and everything is going just as you wrote it. Really appreciate your insight. Thanks.

  40. if I buy from easibook, can I show the counter the email on my iPad to print out the actual ticket?

  41. Hi, if I book tickets from SG to JB through easybook, will i get the reprint of the return ticket from the Woodlands CIQ counter too, or do I need to get the reprint of the return ticket at JB Sentral’s counter? Thanks.

    1. Your onward ticket and return ticket has two different codes. If the counter queue at Woodlands CIQ isn’t too long, you can get your return ticket printed there. If that fails, you can just scan the QR code on your phone for the JB Sentral – Woodlands CIQ journey.

  42. Hello, how do i take the bus from woodlands c1q to mrt woodlands station. And which bus should I choose. thank you

  43. Hi Officer,
May I know how & when we can purchase the Woodlands train ticket to JB? Which online website & ticket prices?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Kelly

  44. Hi,

Can you let me know if non-citizens can use this train service or is it only for singaporean/Malaysians?

I am an Indian passport holder with employment pass in singapore and holding a valid Malaysia visa. Would I be able to use this train service?

    Regards
    Vi

      1. Straits times article mentioned this service for “Singaporeans and Malaysians”, instead of using a generic term like “travellers”. Thought I would confirm before heading out to avoid wasting time.

        Thanks for confirming!

  45. How do I get to book the 8.30 am ticket from JB to SG. I have tried booking at 8.30am in the morning for 30 days in advance and by the time I get the search results the ticket is already sold out.

  46. Do we need to exchange EasyBook shuttle train ticket for KTM ticket at the counter or can we just scan the barcode at the gantry. I saw you mentioned that we need to exchange. But the counter and EasyBook said not necessary.

    1. A WALKTHROUGH OF THE JOURNEY

How do I board the Shuttle Tebrau?

I would love to give you a walkthrough of Woodlands Train Checkpoint with pictures as requested by many but photography is prohibited in the checkpoint. I hope the guide below will be descriptive enough for you.

How do I get from JB Sentral to Woodlands CIQ?

Purchase your ticket 30 days till 10 minutes before departure (if available till then).
Scan your ticket at the turnstiles (https://railtravelstation.com/2017/03/18/shuttle-tebrau-turnstile-system-at-jb-sentral/) from 30 minutes till 10 minutes before departure. The gate will close 10 minutes before departure.

  47. Hi I did not print my e- ticket but i print my tax invoice from easy book. Will i be able to gey my ticket just by showing the invoice and screenshot of my e- ticket?

  48. Hi, I would like to know whether am I still able to refund/cancel one of the ticket at the counter as one of my friend isn’t able to make it and another friend is coming instead. However the name and ic indicate the friend who can’t make it. I’m wondering whether I would be able to go to the counter to cancel the ticket and get a new one since from what I understand, changing of names on ticket are not allowed. I bought the tickets from easybook though and the departure date is 3 days away.

  49. Hi, may I check if a wheelchair bound can I take the train from singspore to JB Sentral? I heard the platform gap is about 40cm wide. So will there be any staff to assist?

    Thanks in advance.

  50. Train gets my vote as it took less than 45 minutes from arriving at W.ciq to leaving JB ciq. A relaxing experience without queues after the first one to show your ticket.
My return by bus took at least an hour.
I followed the advice on your site and took Bus 856 from Marsiling MRT to the train checkpoint.
I should have bought tickets on line as all return seats were taken for the rest of the day. I could only buy the outward ticket at the Woodlands KTM office. Thanks for a useful site:)

  51. Hi, thank you for the detailed post!!

Like to check if I have made a typo in passenger name in my booking for JB Sentral > Woodlands, will I be required to repurchase or can I proceed with this?

I understand that there will be scanning of the Eticket at the turnstiles, not too sure if the train staff will verify against passport and deny entry? Thanks in advance!

  52. if I plan to go with my child (3 years 10 months) is it possible if just buy for 1 adult ticket and my child will be on my lap?

      1. Hi there, which one is correct? Under 2 years old or 4 years old? Because in your post you stated under 2 years old. However, somewhere up in the comment you wrote under 4 years old. I tried to book my shuttle tebrau’s ticket through easybook and it showed that the child ticket is for 4-12 years old. I am bringing my 3 years 3 months old son and wondering should I buy him a ticket too or not. Also, if I don’t need to buy him a ticket do you know if I can just show up with him or should I request a ticket waiver of sort? Please kindly reply. Thanks in advance!

        1. I’ve just rang KTM up, seems like it’s now under 4 years old. The post has been updated. Thanks for your comment.

  53. Hi, may I know how I can purchase a weekday 0830 ticket from woodlands to jb over counter when counter only opens at 0830? THanks!

    1. I’m assuming you’re talking about Woodlands CIQ ticket counter. The counter opens at least 30 minutes before a train departure. Also, you need to be sure that your ticket hasn’t been already sold out 30 days before departure.

      1. Oh dear, thanks for your prompt reply! Would you, by any chance, know of a hotline (Woodlands CIQ ticket counter) that I may call to enquire of?

  54. Hi, a million thanks for your detailed post. I have a slight concern, say my train departs from W’lands CIQ at 8.30am, and the gate closes by 8.15am sharp, and I have checked in at the gate at 8.10am, roughly how long will the immigration processes for the both countries take? Will the train leave without me ?

    Cheers!

  55. I like to know can I booked a return trip from JB-Woodlands (RM10) and only use Woodlands-JB portion of the trip?
    (I can save RM6/pax)

    1. System maintenance scheduled at 23:00 to 00:15 (UTC+8). During this time, you will not be allowed to make new booking.

  56. My passport has expired and am waiting to collect new passport on 6 Dec. Can I buy the ticket online for 9 Dec. However just indicating any expiry date for passport?

    1. No, you need your new passport number to buy your ticket. Keying in any wrong information will just nullify your bought ticket and render it useless.
