KTM 61 Class DMU

The KTM DMU 61 Class is the newest 4-car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) for DMU train services – the new generation of regional travel on non-electrified lines on the network upgraded from locomotive-hauled services.

The DMU 61 Class has a design speed of 140km/h, which can operate at up to 120km/h on rehabilitated track sectors on the East Coast Line and Southern Line. Each DMU 61 Class train set are also equipped with a graphene-based supercapacitor for regenerative braking, and two MAN powerpacks. A fleet of 13 sets of DMU 61 Class were ordered, manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd..

There are 2 versions of DMU 61 Class trains – 1 with parcel storage and 1 without.

The DMU 61 Class did not launch on 1 October 2020 on Ekspres Selatan services despite ticket booking availability on the KTM E-Ticket System and KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS).

The DMU 61 Class launched as a special train on 11 April 2021 at 10.15am in a ceremony from Wakaf Bharu Railway Station to Pasir Mas Railway Station and back by YB Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong (Minister of Transport), YAB Dato’ Ahmad Yaakob (Menteri Besar Kelantan), and YBrs. Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin (CEO KTMB).

As KTM Berhad has restricted Facebook access to RailTravel Station, RailTravel Station is unable to ask first-hand information when I need clarification from KTM Berhad regarding their services. As such, in reciprocity, RailTravel Station will only provide information that is provided by KTM Berhad.

Version 1 without PV – 214 seats & 100 standees

The DMU 61 Class Version 1 without PV has transverse seats throughout the train.

Version 2 with PV – 208 seats & 100 standees

The DMU 61 Class Version 2 with PV has some longitudinal seats by the doors of the end coaches and transverse seats in all other parts of the train.

Grabpoles and handgrips are available for standees by the longitudinal seating area by the doors.

3-Pin Power Sockets

3-pin power sockets are provided at every seat, either below between each seat or against the wall.

Bistro – Coach A

A bistro is available in Coach A on both versions of DMU 61 Class.

Luggage Racks

Luggage racks are available by some doors and above most seats.

Information Screens

Television screens in every coach provide route information along with videos for advertising and entertainment.

Surau

A surau or Muslim prayer room is available at Coach C.
