KTM Skypark Link Fare Cut To RM3.50

KTM Skypark Link now costs only RM3.50 between KL Sentral and Subang Airport

The KTM SkyPark Link train service between KL Sentral and Subang Airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport), also known as Subang Skypark, has its cashless fare cut from RM10 to RM3.50 with effect from 9 June 2022. This is a 65% discount from the original cashless fare.

This new lower fare was announced by Malaysia Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong at the Majlis Pelancaran Perkhidmatan Skypark Link KL Sentral ke Lapangan Terbang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Subang event on 9 June 2022 at Terminal Skypark Railway Station.

For the KTM SkyPark Link train journey between Subang Jaya Railway Station and Terminal Skypark Railway Station, the fare has also been reduced from RM4.50 to RM2.

For the KTM SkyPark Link train journey between Subang Jaya Railway Station and KL Sentral, the fare has also been reduced from RM4.50 to RM2.60.

These new revised KTM SkyPark Link fares from 9 June 2022 will match the existing fare structure of the KTM Komuter Klang Valley Sector, without a premium charged for the KTM SkyPark Link train service.

The KTM SkyPark Link was launched on 1 May 2018, using the new KTM SkyPark Line which follows the old branch line alignment from Subang Jaya Railway Station to just before the old freight Subang Airport Railway Station, and on a brand new line from that point to the new Terminal Skypark Railway Station.

Rapid KL Bus Service 772?

Interestingly, the Rapid KL Bus Service 772 is also promoted during the Majlis Pelancaran Perkhidmatan Skypark Link KL Sentral ke Lapangan Terbang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Subang event, which I’m not sure if it’s such a good idea. While bus connectivity should be promoted as a means to access the railway, Rapid KL Bus Service 772 is a direct competitor of the KTM SkyPark Link, which also plies between KL Sentral and Subang Airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport), also known as Subang Skypark.

As per my previous journey on both the SkyPark Link 2809dn from KL Sentral to Terminal Skypark and Rapid KL Bus Service 772 from Subang Airport to KL Sentral, the Rapid KL Bus Service 772 proved to be more frequent, cheaper, and faster than the KTM SkyPark Link.

Bus connectivity is important to feed railway lines to facilitate first mile/last mile journeys, but I think KTM should not be promoting a direct competitor to their SkyPark Link train service as it will discourage passengers from using their train services. The Rapid KL Bus Service 772 does not help to support KTM SkyPark Link operations at all – in fact, it takes passengers away on a more frequent, cheaper, and faster trip.
