The Plaza Premium Lounge Changi Airport Terminal 1 is one of three Priority Pass lounges in Changi Airport Terminal 1, and the only independent one which is not operated by a ground handling agent. As I have tried the Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 4 (Blossom – SATS & Plaza Premium Lounge) and Penang before, I decided to give Terminal 1’s a shot to see how it fares.
After checking-in at the front desk, I headed to grab some supper at 2am.
The empty dining area for now.
There is also a tall co-working table in the dining area.
The main food area of the Plaza Premium Lounge.
The salad bar is almost empty with a hot Chinese soup and dessert at the side.
No buffet at night too, just an a la carte order of Laksa or Chicken Rice.
Canned non-alcoholic drinks are available in the refrigerator, along with bottles of mineral water and some small desserts.
No alcoholic drinks are served at night – the Plaza Premium Lounge Changi Airport Terminal 1 bar closes from 12 midnight to 6.00am. Oh well.
First up, I ordered a bowl of Laksa from the a la carte menu.
Looks and tastes similar to the one in Blossom – SATS & Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 4, though without Laksa leaves as a condiment. It was reasonably tasty and lemak-y for a lounge Laksa.
I made my own sandwich from the drinks bar with the little condiments they had. There were also tomatoes in addition to tuna and cheese, but all of them were running low on stock.
I tried the Chicken Rice as well. Tasted quite alright too, and the preparation time was faster since the chef just needs to scoop and plate the ingredients.
And with that, I’ve tried all the dishes on offer, except a hot Chinese soup and hot Chinese dessert by the empty salad bar.
Heading to the lounging area to rest.
There are also semi=private pods laid out like a honeycomb, but these were all taken up.
I picked a regular lounge chair in the lounging area.
Power sockets are available by each chair.
Plaza Premium Lounge Changi Airport Terminal 1 offers a view of Runway 1, but I didn’t bother about it since it was night time. For reference, this is where the classic Swensen’s and viewing mall used to be in the old layout of Terminal 1.
Showers are booked through a queue system, and booking of time slots aren’t available – you have to follow the queue list. You will get a buzzer when your shower is ready.
My shower queue took about 1.5 hours from filling up the shower queue form at 3.00am.
Inside the shower room of Plaza Premium Lounge Changi Airport Terminal 1.
The toilet area of the shower room is well-equipped with all amenities that you might need for washing up.
Hotel-standard amenities are provided in the tray.
The only thing missing from the toilet bowl is a bidet spray to make it perfect.
Heading into the shower with a towel already prepared on the door.
The powerful shower inside the shower cubicle.
A combined 2-in-1 shampoo and shower soap is provided in squeezy bottles.
The lounge got really crowded from about 3.00am onwards, probably due to many incoming flights for transit passengers, or people who have the same idea as me to wait around for a later flight in the morning. It wasn’t very pleasant to rest overnight in a crowded lounge with little food and drink options available. Thankfully I didn’t have to pay since I used my Priority Pass.
Perhaps I’ll just spend my time in the regular transit area next time since Changi Airport’s floors and benches are conducive for sleeping out in the open in the transit area.
Once done with the pseudo-rest, I continued on for my Scoot TR632 flight to Hat Yai.
