RapidKL Sri Petaling & Kelana Jaya Lines Extension: Putra Heights

The extension of the Sri Petaling Line and Kelana Jaya Line opened on 30 June 2016, bringing the LRT into the suburbs of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Puchong and offering convenient access from these towns to Kuala Lumpur.

Sri Petaling Line

On its opening, passengers travelling on the Sri Petaling Line will have to change trains at Sri Petaling to get to the new extension. However, from 17 July 2016 onwards, trains will run through to the new extension, from Sentul Timur to Putra Heights seamlessly.

You can find out about the extension so far up to Bandar Puteri here and here.

Looking back at Bandar Puteri on the new extension.

Approaching Putra Heights.

There is also a new depot constructed at Putra Heights for Sri Petaling Line trains. This is the access track to the depot.

The new depot looks impressive from the train, with more capacity than the existing Ampang depot.

Putra Heights has 1 island platform and 2 side platforms, offering cross-platform interchange between the Sri Petaling Line and Kelana Jaya Line on the island platform. The 2 side platforms were not in passenger service.

Kelana Jaya Line

Trains on the Kelana Jaya Line run seamlessly through to the new extension since the first day of operations.

After Putra Heights, there is a connecting track linking the Kelana Jaya Line and the Sri Petaling Line which is not electrified. My guess is that it’s for rolling stock transfer between the 2 lines to access the other depots if needed.

USJ 7 Station, which is the interchange station with the Sunway BRT. Most stations on the extension look like this.

Approaching Subang Jaya.

This tunnel is a sound and visual barrier, between the Empire Shopping Gallery and Saujana Residency apartments.

Passing through the steel tunnel.

Approaching Subang Jaya station with the integrated concourse of the Kelana Jaya Line and KTM Komuter.

The Park and Ride facility at Glenmarie.

If you’re lucky, you can also spot one of the new Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicle (KLAV) trains in the depot, which is actually the Bombardier INNOVIA Metro 300. This train is expected to be in service in 2017.

The original depot access track from Kelana Jaya station is now part of the main line between Lembah Subang and Kelana Jaya. You can see where the new viaduct is joined to the existing viaduct here.
