This post was made before 1 August 2015. The Tren JB – Gua Musang and Tren Gua Musang – JB is now known as the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran.
The partial reopening of the East Coast Line between Gemas and Gua Musang begins with the Tren JB – Gua Musang. The new train follows a similar schedule as the Senandung Timuran which ran all the way to Tumpat before the East Coast floods last year, truncating the service at Gua Musang to provide passenger service to reinforced sections of the track.
On the ticket, the train bears a duplicated 4 digit number of 2626up and 2727dn from the previous 26up and 27dn Senandung Timuran.
Just like all northbound trains from JB Sentral, boarding for the Tren JB – Gua Musang is at Gate B on the right of the waiting hall.
The Tren JB – Gua Musang is made up of 4 coaches – 3 Superior Class seating coaches (ASC) and 1 Superior Night Class coach (ADNS).
The 2 ASC variants attached to this rake.
The ADNS attached on this rake.
The lower berth proves popular as always.
The upper berth gets you enough space for a good rest with a smaller window.
No buffet coach is attached to this train, but snacks, light meals and drinks are available for sale from the canteen crew. Just look out for the well-stocked area on the train.
The Tren JB – Gua Musang is launched just in time for those heading back to the kampungs on the East Coast Line this Hari Raya. While the train may not be as prestigious as the Ekspres Timuran back in the days even before the flooding, the train serves its purpose well and brings back life to the many villages along the railway with no proper roads and where the train is the lifeline of the people to move them and their goods to nearby major towns.
Passengers continuing their journey north of Gua Musang will need to board connecting buses which are included in the ticket.
