Surat Thani Railway Station (สถานีรถไฟสุราษฎร์ธานี)

Surat Thani Railway Station (สถานีรถไฟสุราษฎร์ธานี), originally named Phunphin Railway Station (Tha Kham Station), was opened in 1915 on the Southern Line of the State Railway of Thailand. Around 1962, the station’s name was changed to align with the name of the province. It is the main railway station for Surat Thani Province, located on the eastern side of the Tapi River in Tha Kham Subdistrict, Phunphin District, Surat Thani Province, approximately 12 kilometers from Surat Thani City. It is classified as a Class 1 station on the Southern Line.

The station building was constructed in 1915. During World War II, the Japanese military used the station building as their operational base. The building was completely destroyed by bombing from U.S. Air Force planes in 1945, along with the Chulachomklao Bridge that spanned the Tapi River.

The Royal State Railways of Siam (now the State Railway of Thailand) constructed a temporary station on the western side of the Tapi River, opposite the original station, naming it Surat Thani Railway Station 2. Once the new station building was completed on the original site, the temporary station was dismantled.
