The journey from Hanoi to Hong Kong, though short, offers a very interesting insight of 4 cities in 2 countries (and 1 special administrative region), varying in sights and experiences from the laid back capital city of Hanoi, through an unexpectedly bustling Nanning since the last time I’ve set foot there 2 years ago, a stopover at the surprisingly efficient Guangzhou, and of course, the modern metropolis of Hong Kong.
On this loop from Singapore, I started my journey by bus from Golden Mile Tower rather than typical Changi Airport as it was a lot more affordable if I flew up from klia2. That was the start of slight inconveniences throughout the trip, but nonetheless, for the value and time needed for this trip, each and every experience (and perhaps inconvenience) offers a new insight to how rail travel is done in cities other than those already familiar.
