KTM Rantau Panjang Line

KTM Rantau Panjang Line

The KTM Rantau Panjang Line was a branch line in Malaysia running from Pasir Mas to Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, at the Malaysia-Thailand border. It was historically an important international rail crossing, connecting Malaysia’s East Coast Line with Thailand’s Southern Line at Sungai Kolok and facilitating cross-border passenger and freight traffic. The line branches off from the KTM East Coast Line at Pasir Mas. In the past, it was served by both KTM and State Railway of Thailand (SRT) trains, but cross-border passenger services ended in 1978 to prevent smuggling, and the branch subsequently fell into disuse with no more train services travelling on the whole branch line.

The KTM Rantau Panjang Line on RailTravel Station includes railway stations and halts between Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang.

As part of Budget 2026 announced on 10 October 2025, the Pasir Mas-Rantau Panjang railway line will be upgraded and revived.

Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, revealed that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) of Malaysia have been tasked with jointly planning and implementing the cross-border train service to Rantau Panjang.
