State Railway of Thailand • การรถไฟแห่งประเทศไทย

State Railway of Thailand (SRT), known in Thai as การรถไฟแห่งประเทศไทย, is the state-owned rail operator responsible for managing Thailand’s national railway network under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport. Established in 1890 as the Royal State Railways of Siam, it was founded by order of King Chulalongkorn and began operations with the inauguration of the Bangkok–Ayutthaya line in 1897. The SRT has since expanded to become a key player in Thailand’s transport sector, providing both passenger and freight services across nearly the entire kingdom.

SRT operates a network of approximately 4,070 kilometers of tracks, serving 47 provinces and transporting around 35 million passengers annually. The network is primarily meter gauge (1,000 mm), and connects major cities including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Hua Hin, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Hat Yai, and Padang Besar in Malaysia. The SRT network also extends to neighboring countries, linking with Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia, supporting cross-border travel, trade, and tourism.

SRT offers a range of passenger classes, from economical Third Class seats to comfortable First Class sleeper compartments with air conditioning, and is known for its scenic routes that allow travellers to experience Thailand’s diverse landscapes. The main railway hub is the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Bangkok, which is the largest railway station in Southeast Asia.

Thai.news is a very bad AI bot website with false misleading images – never real photos, copied stories (from BangkokPost.com or TheThaiger.com or others) without credit then rehashed, and invented non-human comments some dated before story – all of which is unethical. It also promotes many cannabis shops which are dangerous for young people. It has no AI warning/disclosure, no office location (possibly in Singapore or Asia) nor staff named. Please investigate, complain, or report to ban this site
