Wakayama Electric Railway Tama Café at Kishi Station

Wakayama Electric Railway Tama Café at Kishi Station

Kishi Station at the end of the Wakayama Electric Railway is not just the main Stationmaster’s office to visit, it is a destination in itself for all things cats and trains. Aside from meeting Nitama the Super Stationmaster, there is also a Tama Café and Tama Shop to grab a snack and drink or souvenir.

Tama Café and Tama Shop

The Tama Café and Tama Shop is located opposite Nitama’s office in the station concourse.

The menu is cat-themed with desserts resembling cats, and a Hot Cat instead of a Hot Dog as the Tama Café uses a fish sausage.

A wide variety of souvenirs are available in the Tama Shop as well.

N-scale Tomytec trains of the Wakayama Electric Railway are available for purchase.

A very wide variety of Tama-themed souvenirs for all budgets are also on sale.

Souvenir tickets are also available to purchase to commemorate your visit to Kishi Station.

Food ordering is done at the counter before entering the Tama Café. A table and seat will be assigned upon order.

Hot Cat

For a brunch snack, I decided to get the Hot Cat. The Hot Cat set comes with a drink, and I opted for a hot Matcha Latte.

I went for the regular Hot Cat Set which comes with Tartar Sauce on the Hot Cat. The Hot Cat uses a fish sausage since that’s what cats like.

There is also a spicy choice with Salsa instead.

The Matcha Latte was nice and hearty for a cold day.

Nitama

Once done with my Hot Cat Set, I went to visit Nitama again with lesser visitors now.

It was also time for Nitama to come up for a stretch before heading to the next nap.

Conclusion

Kishi Station is at the end of the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. Without Tama, the line was slated for closure. Now with the cat-themed railway, people from all over the world flock to Kishi to meet the cat Stationmasters, and is now a destination in its own right with a cat-themed station, souvenir shop, café, and a tourism office just across the road to explore more of this local town.
