Hotel Review: Smart Hotel Thamrin Jakarta • Budget Hotel outside Dukuh Atas BNI MRT Station

Smart Hotel Thamrin Jakarta used to be a building that I see behind a perpetual construction site on a road difficult to access from both the KRL and TransJakarta Busway, but that has changed ever since the MRT Jakarta construction has completed as it’s currently the total opposite, on the new main road just outside Dukuh Atas BNI MRT Station. As such, I opted to try it out for this MRT Jakarta trip.

The main entrance of Smart Hotel Thamrin Jakarta.

The front desk of Smart Hotel Thamrin Jakarta. I got there slightly early, about 45 minutes before 2pm, and was not allowed to check-in. Instead, I was told to return only after 2pm.

I returned a few minutes past 2pm and checked in with my agoda booking. An additional cash deposit of Rp.250,000 was also requested for, to be refunded upon checking out.

I booked a Standard Queen Room for this stay.

The room was rather compact with no windows, but sufficient for just a night’s stay.

A side table and luggage rack is available, with an in-room safe too.

A wall-mounted TV complements the inside room.

A slot-in wardrobe without door is provided, with a black wooden panel covering it. Personally, I would prefer just a simple bar from the wall for better ventilation.

The only window in the room lead to the corridor just beside the door, which I obviously did not open.

The toilet was a bit small but sufficient too.

Toiletries are provided on the rack in front of the sink.

Soap and towel is also provided.

The toilet bowl comes with an in-built bidet system.

Heading out, the nearest Dukuh Atas BNI MRT Station entrance is barely 50 steps away, just across a small junction.

Buffet breakfast is served at the Sizzler American Grill Restaurant on Level 2.

The salad bar is used to lay out the buffet breakfast.

There is ample seating in the restaurant for breakfast.

Despite the grand look of the restaurant and buffet bar, it was a simple affair with the Indonesian hotel breakfast staple of Nasi Goreng (fried rice) with a side of Bihun Goreng (rice vermicelli) and scrambled eggs. Hot coffee, hot tea, a cold cordial drink and water is also available.

Overall, for the affordable price and now-excellent location there’s pretty much nothing to complain about at Smart Hotel Thamrin Jakarta. There’s a couple of reviews online talking about insects in the room, but I couldn’t find any. The air-conditioning also worked fine in my room.
