Train Review: AERA1 City Line Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai by Train (Express Set)

AERA1 City Line Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai Express Set Review

The AERA1 City Line Airport Rail Link is Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport’s dedicated airport train service linking it to the city in just 28 minutes. Heading to Bangkok city, I opted for the fastest and cost-friendly way by train.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

From the arrival hall of Suvarnabhumi Airport, follow the signs to City Line and Express Line.

There were 2 services in the past for the Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link, but the Express Line has long been out of service, and AERA1 operates only the City Line now at higher frequencies.

Head down the escalators to the basement.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Station

Suvarnabhumi Airport Station is in the middle of the floor, down the slope.

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machines or from the counter.

The train fare from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city costs up to 45 Baht only.

  • Suvarnabhumi Airport to Makkasan (Interchange with MRT Blue Line): 35 Baht
  • Suvarnabhumi Airport to Ratchaprarop (Walking distance to Pratunam): 40 Baht
  • Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai (Interchange with BTS Sukhumvit Line): 45 Baht

Heading through the fare gates with my ticket token.

Heading down the escalator to the platform.

A train had just arrived just as I had also arrived on the platform. Perfect. To make it more perfect, this is a 4-car former Express Line train which has been converted to City Line configuration, so it provides more capacity for passengers.

Doors are closed after arriving passengers had disembarked for security checks and for the driver to switch cabs.

After all is clear, the doors will open again for boarding passengers.

The interior of the refurbished Express Line train set with a longitudinal seat configuration.

The Express Line luggage racks remain on board, which is convenient for passengers with large luggage.

The route map of the AERA1 City Line Airport Rail Link. I will be taking the full route from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai.

Heading out of the underground section in Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Lat Krabang Station can be seen just ahead.

Curving left to Lat Krabang. The line runs rather straight from here on all the way till the end of the line at Phaya Thai.

Lat Krabang Station

Making a brief stop at Lat Krabang Station. Many locals also board from here.

Looking back at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The AERA1 City Line Airport Rail Link makes stops at Ban Thap Chang, Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng, Makkasan, and Ratchaprarop, along the way to Phaya Thai.

Phaya Thai Station

The 28.6km train journey from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai takes just 28 minutes.

Heading out of the fare gates by dropping my token into the machine.

Heading down the escalator to the linkbridge to the BTS station.

The linkbridge leads directly to Phaya Thai BTS Station on the BTS Sukhumvit Line, which is 2 stops away from Siam central station.
