KLIA Ekspres, KLIA Transit Fares to Rise by RM10 from 2027
Passengers travelling between Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will pay more for KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit train services from 1 January 2027, with fares set to increase by up to RM10.
The fare adjustment, announced by Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL), will be the first revision since 2016, according to reports by Free Malaysia Today and Malay Mail. ERL is also working with its partners to offer exclusive ticket discounts of up to 30% following the fare revision.
The change affects the airport rail services operated by ERL, which connect KL Sentral with KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, as well as intermediate stations served by KLIA Transit.

KLIA Ekspres fare to increase from RM55 to RM65
The standard adult one-way fare between KL Sentral and KLIA Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 is currently RM55. The fare is scheduled to increase by RM10 to RM65 from 1 January 2027.
The current standard return fare is RM100. With the RM10 increase applied to the one-way fare, passengers should expect the new return fare structure to be announced by ERL as part of the revised tariff.
At present, the KLIA Ekspres standard adult fare costs RM55 one way and RM100 return. Children aged six to 15 pay RM25 one way and RM45 return, while children below six can travel free subject to the applicable conditions.
KLIA Ekspres journey time
KLIA Ekspres provides a non-stop rail connection between KL Sentral and KLIA, with a published journey time of approximately 28 minutes between KL Sentral and KLIA Terminal 1. The journey between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 takes a further three minutes.
The service currently operates every 20 minutes throughout the day, including weekends and public holidays.
KLIA Transit fares will also increase
The fare adjustment also applies to KLIA Transit, which provides stopping services between KL Sentral and KLIA.
KLIA Transit serves Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi before continuing to KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The current adult fare from KL Sentral to KLIA is RM55, the same as KLIA Ekspres.
First fare revision since 2016
The 2027 increase marks an important change for the airport rail network because the standard KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit fares have remained at their current levels since the previous revision in 2016, according to the latest reports.
The issue of ERL’s fare structure has previously been discussed by the government. In 2024, the Transport Ministry said ERL had been allowed to determine fares based on market considerations following changes to its concession arrangement. The government also said the extended concession arrangement would allow ERL greater flexibility in developing its fare offerings.
Discounts will remain available
Although the standard fare is increasing, passengers may still be able to reduce their travel costs through promotional fares and discounts. ERL currently offers a 10% discount for online purchases through the KLIA Ekspres website and app. ERL has also announced that it is working with partners to provide exclusive discounts of up to 30% following the 2027 fare adjustment.
This means the actual price paid by passengers could vary depending on the ticket type, booking channel, promotional offer and eligibility.
KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit remain key airport rail services
KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit form the dedicated airport rail connection between central Kuala Lumpur and KLIA.
While KLIA Ekspres operates as the non-stop service between KL Sentral and the airport during its regular operating pattern, KLIA Transit serves the intermediate stations at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi.
The two services therefore cater to different travel patterns. Passengers heading directly between KL Sentral and KLIA can use the non-stop KLIA Ekspres service, while KLIA Transit provides rail access to several destinations south of Kuala Lumpur.
New KLIA airport train fares from 1 January 2027
The key change for passengers travelling between KL Sentral and KLIA is:
| Service | Current adult one-way fare | From 1 January 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| KLIA Ekspres: KL Sentral – KLIA | RM55 | RM65 |
| KLIA Transit: KL Sentral – KLIA | RM55 | RM65 |
The RM10 increase represents an 18.2% increase over the current RM55 one-way fare.
Passengers planning airport journeys in 2027 should therefore take the revised fares into account when budgeting for travel between Kuala Lumpur and KLIA.
