New KTM Komuter Northern Sector Timetable from 24 July 2026 (Jadual Baru KTM Komuter Utara mulai 24 Julai 2026)
A new KTM Komuter Northern Sector train timetable will be in place from 24 July 2026. Services on both the Butterworth-Padang Besar Line and Butterworth-Ipoh Line will be enhanced with more train services and extending operating hours to better accommodate growing passenger demand. The timetable improvements are aimed at reducing waiting times during peak periods while providing commuters with greater flexibility for daily travel between Padang Besar, Butterworth and Ipoh.
KTM Komuter Northern Sector, also known as Komuter Utara, provides local all-stop train services on the Northern Corridor Economic Region in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak, with trains running on the Butterworth-Padang Besar Line and Butterworth-Ipoh Line.
Here are the KTM Komuter Northern Sector train timetables effective 24 July 2026.
6 Additional KTM Komuter Services Every Day
From 24 July 2026, KTMB will increase the number of KTM Komuter Northern Sector services from 56 to 62 daily services, with six new train services comprising:
- 1 additional pair of services on the Butterworth-Padang Besar Line
- 2 additional pairs of services on the Butterworth-Ipoh Line
The 6-car 92 Class EMU will also be in service on the Butterworth-Ipoh Line on selected trains for the first time.
The service enhancement is expected to improve connectivity across northern Peninsular Malaysia while catering to increasing demand from commuters travelling for work, education and other daily activities.
Shorter Waiting Times During Peak Hours
The revised timetable significantly reduces waiting times on key routes.
On the Ipoh – Butterworth corridor, morning peak waiting times will be reduced to 55 minutes, compared with more than 120 minutes previously.
Meanwhile, on the Padang Besar – Butterworth route, evening peak waiting times will be halved from 60 minutes to 30 minutes, making train travel considerably more convenient.
This improvement is made possible through the addition of:
- KTM Komuter Northern Sector 2953dn, departing Padang Besar at 6:05 pm for Butterworth.
- KTM Komuter Northern Sector 2960up, departing Butterworth at 8:45 pm for Padang Besar.
Extended Last Train Services
In addition to increasing service frequency, KTMB is extending the operating hours of the final trains, giving passengers more flexibility when planning their journeys.
