KTMB Adds 124 Additional Train Services with 38,944 Extra Seats for National Day and School Holidays
KTM Berhad is adding 124 train services offering 38,944 additional seats during the upcoming National Day celebrations and school holiday period, as ETS celebrates its 16th anniversary. This is to cater for increased travel demand during the National Day celebrations and school holidays.
Since ETS was introduced on 12 August 2010, the service has carried 44.3 million passengers, highlighting its growing role as an intercity rail transport option in Malaysia.
Passenger numbers have continued to rise in 2026. From January to July 2026, ETS recorded 3.67 million passengers, compared with 2.36 million during the same period in 2025. This represents a 56% increase year-on-year.
ETS Network Continues to Expand
KTMB Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri said the milestone reflects customers’ continued confidence in ETS.
ETS began operations in 2010 with services to Ipoh before expanding to Butterworth and Padang Besar in 2015. The service subsequently expanded southwards to JB Sentral at the end of 2025.
According to KTMB, the expansion reflects its commitment to providing a wider, more comfortable and competitive rail service while increasing capacity, improving reliability and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
124 Additional Services for the Holiday Period
To meet increased demand during the National Day celebrations and school holidays, KTMB will operate 124 additional train services, providing a total of 38,944 additional seats.
The additional services comprise:
- 100 additional ETS services with 31,600 seats
- 24 additional EMU Plus services with 7,344 seats
Tickets for the additional services went on sale on 13 August 2026 through KTMB’s official sales channels.

The 100 additional ETS services will operate over 10 days on 21–23 August, 28–31 August and 4–6 September 2026.

All the additional ETS services listed above will operate on 21–23 August, 28–31 August and 4–6 September 2026.
24 Additional EMUPlus Services
KTMB will also introduce 24 additional EMUPlus services, providing a further 7,344 seats.
The additional services include extensions to Bandar Tasik Selatan, giving passengers more travel options during the holiday period.

More KTM Komuter Northern Sector Services
Passengers travelling on the KTM Komuter Northern Sector will also benefit from additional services.
KTMB plans to operate 8 additional services on the Butterworth – Padang Besar Line from 27 to 31 August 2026.
The additional services will bring the total number of services on the route to 46 trips per day during the period.
ETS Celebrates 16 Years of Service
The additional train services form part of KTMB’s wider efforts to increase capacity, provide more travel options and accommodate higher passenger demand during the holiday season and National Day celebrations.
KTMB is also marking the 16th anniversary of ETS with customer appreciation activities held from 10 to 14 August 2026.
These activities include KFC vouchers and meals, complimentary travel tickets, RM16 discount offers, and gifts from strategic partners including Hurix, Resorts World Genting and Santan.
With ETS having carried more than 44 million passengers since its launch, the service has become an increasingly important part of Malaysia’s intercity rail network.
As demand for rail travel continues to grow, KTMB’s latest additional services are expected to provide greater capacity and more travel choices for passengers travelling during the upcoming National Day and school holiday period.
