KTM Komuter Southern Sector (KTM Komuter Selatan) JB Sentral-Kulai

KTM Komuter Southern Sector (KTM Komuter Selatan)

KTM Komuter Southern Sector, also known as the Komuter Selatan, is a new KTM Komuter network which will provide local all-stop train services in the state of Johor on the KTM Southern Line, with trains running on the JB Sentral-Kulai Line and Kempas Baru-Pasir Gudang Line after the completion of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) at a date to be fixed.

The KTM Komuter Southern Sector was first officially announced by Malaysia Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook on 14 March 2024, with services to be launched on 21 April 2025 running on the Gemas-Paloh Line and JB Sentral-Paloh Line.

On 7 January 2025, Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke announced that the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) was “on track for completion” by the third quarter of 2025. Bernama

On 22 July 2025, outgoing GCEO YBhg. Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham announced that the Kempas Baru-Pasir Gudang Line will be the starting point for the Komuter Selatan, aligned with the completion of the RTS to help disperse passengers along the north-south travel corridor. In the long run upon completion of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP), the electrified Komuter Selatan service may operate between Paloh and JB Sentral (JB Sentral-Paloh Line) alongside the higher-speed ETS. There is no more mention of the Gemas-Paloh Line. The Straits Times

On 28 November 2025, State works, transportation, infrastructure and communications committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that a new commuter train service running on the 25km single-track cargo line between Kempas Baru and Pasir Gudang is in the pipeline and will take only 30 minutes by train. The Kempas Baru-Pasir Gudang Line would operate 4 round trips daily, with fares expected to be below RM3. There will be 3 new temporary passenger stations to be set up in the next 6 months at Taman Daya, Bandar Seri Alam, and Pasir Putih. The Kempas Baru-Pasir Gudang Line would complement the upcoming Komuter Selatan scheduled to begin operations in February 2026, which is expected to kick off a month after the Electric Train Service (ETS) starts running on 1 January 2026. The Komuter Selatan is yet again shortened, now running only 25km from Johor Baru Sentral to Kulai. The JB Sentral-Kulai Line would see a total of 32 trips a day, with each train accommodating up to 400 passengers. Tickets are also expected to cost under RM3. The Star

On 11 November 2025, Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke announced that the Transport Ministry plans to introduce a dedicated commuter train service on the Kulai–Johor Bahru route from the first quarter of 2026, using existing rolling stock that previously operated on the Ekspres Selatan while waiting for new train sets. The journey between Kulai and JB Sentral was announced to take around 20 minutes. There will be 16 northbound trains and 16 southbound trains per day, with a frequency of almost every half an hour. KTM Komuter Melaka-Johor Missing Link

The KTM Komuter Melaka-Johor Missing Link is the sector south of the electrified double-track line between Padang Besar and Pulau Sebang (Tampin) which is currently not served by the KTM Komuter, which is between Pulau Sebang (Tampin) and JB Sentral in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor states.

The KTM Komuter Melaka-Johor Missing Link is a term coined by RailTravel Station and in no way suggested a potential KTM Komuter service on this sector. It describes fixing the missing links by bus, making it a cheaper option to travel short-haul or suggests a potential connection from the current terminals of the KTM Komuter Klang Valley Sector.
