LRT Mutiara Line | Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) System

LRT Mutiara Line is a light rail transit system under development in Penang, Malaysia. Spanning 29.5 kilometers, it will connect George Town’s city center with southern suburbs such as Jelutong, Gelugor, Sungai Nibong, Bayan Lepas, Penang International Airport, and the future Silicon Island, and extend across the Penang Strait to Penang Sentral (Butterworth) with connections to Butterworth Railway Station. The line will feature 21 strategically located elevated stations, including one at Penang Sentral on the mainland.

As Penang’s first rail-based light transit system, LRT Mutiara Line serves as the backbone of the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP). Construction of the LRT Mutiara Line commenced in January 2025, following a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The LRT Mutiara Line project is expected to be completed by December 2031, aiming to enhance public transportation, create job opportunities, attract investments, and improve the quality of life for Penang residents.
