If you fall within an age group, the age-related Railcards are the best as it offers 1/3 off train fares throughout Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) on National Rail. Otherwise, the Network Railcard is open to all ages for travel within the Network Railcard area (London and South East).
You can also link a Railcard to an Oyster card to enjoy 1/3 off train fares on the Tube, DLR, London Overground, and TfL Rail.
Railcards cannot be used for rail travel in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.

Once purchased, your Railcard is immediately activated and is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase. Your digital Railcard can be accessed from the Trainline app, and must be shown to the conductor on board the train or when purchasing tickets over the counter.
I always get a Railcard for myself when visiting the UK as it pays itself off with around just 3 of my trips near London. With this 50% discount, now all it takes is 1 long journey with a fare of £45 or more to recoup this cost.
