KTMB Appoints Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri as New Group CEO

KTM Berhad has announced the appointment of Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) effective 12 January 2026. The appointment reflects the Board of Directors’ strong confidence in Datuk Azlan Shah’s leadership credentials and extensive expertise, particularly within the public transport ecosystem and organisational governance. It also aligns with KTMB’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the nation’s rail services through a phased, progressive and customer-centric approach.

KTMB Chairman, Dato’ Ahmad Redza Abdullah, said that the decision was made based on Datuk Azlan Shah’s proven leadership track record and deep experience in the public transport sector.

“KTMB is confident that Datuk Azlan Shah will be able to drive the organisation towards greater achievements through a strong emphasis on good governance, operational competitiveness and enhanced customer experience,” he said.

Datuk Azlan Shah previously served for 7 years as Director General of the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) under the Ministry of Transport. During his tenure, he played a significant role in shaping the national public transport landscape, particularly within the rail sector. His experience spans regulatory oversight, service planning and the coordination of public transport initiatives at a national level—capabilities that are expected to further strengthen KTMB’s strategic direction as the country’s rail operator.

Prior to his role in the public transport authority, Datuk Azlan Shah gained valuable experience in the corporate and financial sectors, with a focus on operations, risk management and internal controls. He is a graduate in Accounting from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom, and holds an MBA in Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Commenting on his appointment, Datuk Azlan Shah expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him and his commitment to the role.

“I am deeply honoured by the confidence given to me and accept this responsibility with full commitment. My focus will be on strengthening KTMB’s capabilities as the national rail operator through continuous improvements that prioritise safety, service reliability and operational efficiency for the benefit of users,” he said.

KTMB believes that this appointment will further reinforce the organisation’s strategic direction, particularly in driving operational reforms, enhancing service delivery standards and strengthening strategic collaboration with stakeholders in support of national mobility development.

Datuk Azlan Shah succeeds Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, who laid a strong foundation during his tenure by spearheading organisational restructuring, strengthening governance and empowering the nation’s rail services.

With this leadership transition, KTMB looks forward to a new chapter focused on sustainable growth, improved passenger experience and a resilient rail network for Malaysia’s future.
