Future Leven Railway Station (Levenmouth Rail Link)
Leven Railway Station, currently under construction, is poised to become the terminus of the Levenmouth rail link, forging a connection between Leven, Fife, and the Fife Circle Line. With historical roots dating back to its establishment in 1854 under the North British Railway, the station ceased operations in 1969, as part of the so-called “Beeching Cuts”.
Designed to be nestled beneath Bawbee Bridge, the station will boast an island platform stretching 205 meters in length. However, due to the bridge’s deteriorating condition, requiring new abutments and decking, initial work on the platforms was delayed until the bridge underwent substantial repairs.
The car park will accommodate 133 vehicles, including designated spots for 12 electric cars. Additional amenities such as cycle storage and a Scotrail welfare facility will be conveniently situated near the waiting shelters.
Leven Railway Station is expected to re-open on 2 June 2024.
Leven Railway Station

Leven Railway Station sits beside the Levenmouth Swimming Pool & Sports Centre, under the Bawbee Bridge.

The main platform access is at the end of the platform after the buffer stops, leading to the car park.

The island platform is simple, with a sloped entrance and a covered shelter for passengers to wait in to avoid the cold.

Both lines end straight on the new alignment.

This seems to deviate from the previous alignment where the railway line curves right onto this disused bridge.

The new Level Railway Station sits beside the River Leven.

The platform is rather long for the initial services that it will be operating.

The former roundabout exit to a bridge is now closed, but the kerb has not changed yet. There is a significant height difference between the roundabout and the station car park.

Another path seems to lead straight out to the Levenmouth Swimming Pool & Sports Centre and Leven Bus Station. However, this needs this wall to be hacked down first.
Leven Bus Station

Leven Bus Station is currently the main public transport node in Leven.

Edinburgh is currently connected with Leven by Stagecoach Bus Services X58 and X60, providing a bus service around 2 buses per hour with a journey time of about 2 hours. From 2 June 2024, ScotRail will also provide trains from Edinburgh to Leven, initially planned to be 1 train per hour, with an estimated journey time of 64 to 75 minutes.
