Since the cessation of KTM Intercity services in April, there is no more through train service between JB Sentral and KL Sentral. However, an overnight train combination still exists if you wish to travel at night, but still includes the compulsory transfer at Gemas.

You should read ETS Gold: (JB Sentral and) Gemas to Kuala Lumpur by Night Train after this post.

The 44up Ekspres Selatan readies for departure at JB Sentral. This train departs at 2340 hrs, or 11.40pm.

This train is made up of Superior Class (ASC INKA) seats only. There are no sleeper or first class coaches on this train.

This is the scenery of the journey at night from the train’s seat. You can just copy and paste such a picture a few times to make a travelogue of this journey.

The lights of the coach will be dimmed shortly after departing Kempas Baru station for you to somewhat sleep.

Shortly before arrival at Gemas, the ticket checkers and train supervisor will go around the train to wake everyone up, before putting on an announcement on full volume so that you don’t forget to alight and u-turn back to JB Sentral on the return 45dn.

The 44up Ekspres Selatan at Gemas, arriving 30 minutes late on my journey. Do note that even though KTM officially says that they do not promise a connection at Gemas if one train is late, generally, trains will wait for each other when either one is late.

Here, it’s a simple cross-platform transfer to the ETS Gold from Gemas to Kuala Lumpur. The doors do not remain open so as to keep the air-conditioning in, so please push the button to open doors.

After a quick rounding of the engine, the 45dn Ekspres Selatan is formed, ready to depart for JB Sentral.
