Hume MRT Station Opening on 28 February 2025
The highly anticipated Hume MRT Station is set to commence operations on Friday, 28 February 2025 at 3pm. Strategically situated along Upper Bukit Timah Road, this new addition to the Downtown Line (DTL) will bridge the gap between the existing Hillview and Beauty World MRT Stations.
Enhanced Connectivity for Residents
Hume MRT Station is poised to significantly benefit residents of Hume Avenue and its surrounding areas. By providing direct access to the DTL, commuters can expect substantial time savings. For instance, a journey from Hume to Downtown will now take approximately 30 minutes, trimming up to 15 minutes off the previous travel time.
Gateway to Heritage and Nature
Beyond serving residential communities, the station offers convenient access to notable landmarks such as the Rail Corridor (Central) and the Former Ford Factory. This enhancement not only facilitates daily commutes but also encourages exploration of Singapore’s rich heritage and natural beauty.
Thoughtful Design and Amenities
Designed with commuter convenience in mind, Hume MRT Station features two entrances: one facing Upper Bukit Timah Road and the other opening onto Hume Avenue. To ensure seamless first-and-last mile connectivity, covered linkways have been constructed, providing sheltered paths to nearby bus stops and pick-up/drop-off points. Additionally, the station accommodates 60 bicycle parking lots near its entrances, promoting active mobility options for users.
Commitment to Sustainability
In line with Singapore’s green initiatives, Hume MRT Station has achieved the BCA Green Mark Gold certification. The station boasts several eco-friendly features, including a rooftop equipped with solar panels, energy-efficient lighting systems, and a hybrid cooling mechanism, underscoring a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Looking Ahead
With the inauguration of Hume MRT Station, the Downtown Line will expand to a total of 35 operational stations. Future extensions are already underway to connect the DTL with the Thomson-East Coast Line at Sungei Bedok MRT Station in the second half of 2026, and the North-South Line in 2035.
