With its southwestern location, Japan’s southernmost railway station is also found on Okinawa at Akamine Station, which is also only 4 minutes (or 1 stop) away by train from Japan’s westernmost railway station at Naha Airport. This makes visiting the 2 unique stations very easy and convenient.

The footprint of the station is surprisingly small, with the whole structure supported by the central pillars on the road median.

A bus and taxi interchange facility is also available at Akamine Station.

Japan’s Southernmost Station Monument

The Japan’s Southernmost Station Monument stands outside Akamine Station at the interchange facility, along the pedestrian steps to Okinawa Prefectural Road Route 221.
