Changi Airport Hub & Spoke: Garden Cafe, Bicycle Rental and Showers by the Changi Airport Park Connector

The Changi Airport Hub & Spoke is a pit stop on the new Changi Airport Park Connector linking Changi Airport to the East Coast Park Connector at Tanah Merah Coast Road with cyclist-friendly amenities such as bicycle rentals, toilets, showers, and a quaint café, aptly named the Hub & Spoke Cafe.

On a recent trip to Changi Airport, I found out accidentally that the Hub & Spoke was already open, with signs around the terminals pointing to it.

Walking to Hub & Spoke via T2

Only Level 3 and Basement of Terminal 2 is open for walkthrough access now.

The dead-empty departure hall in preparation for renovations.

What a surreal sight. Even in a zombie apocalypse, there are zombies.

Heading to Car Park 2A for the lifts down to the 1st Floor.

The start of the Changi Airport Park Connector is right at the now-closed Arrival Hall exit to the coach stands and pick-up point.

Having not been to this part of Changi Airport for so long, this new development seems as if it just appeared out of nowhere. This is a rather legit park connector.

Terminal 2 Bicycle Lockers (S$5)

Bicycle lockers are available for rent. Perhaps you would like a secure space to park your bicycle when you cycle to the airport to catch your flight.

A locker can only be booked with an e-token via cashless payment methods through the iChangi mobile app.

Price:
S$5.00 per use, for every 24 hours block

Operating Hours:
24 hours

Follow the instructions on the iChangi mobile app to open your booked bicycle locker.

Terminal 2 Bicycle Racks (Free)

Like all other good park connectors, there are ample open bicycle racks too.

The park connector continues out of the sandwiched road between the South Pier and Car Park 2A.

Good signages are put up along the Changi Airport Park Connector.

Yup, Changi Airport also included the direction to cycle to Marina Bay via East Coast Park. Totally feasible actually, at a distance of just around 20km.

Hub & Spoke

The Hub & Spoke facility is at the end of the South Pier.

Hub & Spoke Showers

Like a legit cycling pit stop, showers are available for cyclists to freshen up after a ride. This is actually pretty useful for someone who actually cycles to the airport for work or to catch a flight since the cyclist wouldn’t enter the office or board the plane all sweaty.

This is also a good alternative for a cheap airport shower if you are able to afford the time to walk a bit out of the main airport terminals.

There are QR code scanners on the gantry in front of the showers.

A shower can only be booked with an e-token via cashless payment methods through the iChangi mobile app.

Price:
S$3.00 per person per entry
S$5.00 per person for a 2-time entry within 6 hours

Operating Hours:
7.00AM – 10.00PM Daily

Note:
1. Amenities such as hot water, shampoo, body wash and hair dryer are provided.
2. Towel not provided. Visitors may purchase a towel from the vending machines at HUB & SPOKE.

A DropBuy vending machine beside the entrance to the showers sell small towels if needed.

The selection of tissues and towels available from the vending machine.

It’s S$2 for the Swissôtel Face Towel and S$3 for the Gym Towel.

And yes, it does have a Swissôtel The Stamford tag on it.

The Swissôtel Face Towel measures 30cm by 30cm, good enough to dry yourself up once.

Hub & Spoke Toilets

Naturally, there are toilets here, and you don’t need to pay to use them.

Hub & Spoke Cafe

Perhaps the most surprising thing at Hub & Spoke would be the Hub & Spoke Cafe.

There is ample seating indoors and outdoors at the Hub & Spoke Cafe.

The gardens might make you forget that you are in an airport if you’re not from Singapore, but I thought it was typical of Changi Airport to have gardens anyway, and I associate gardens with Changi Airport, so this setting was kind of expected to me.

Hub & Spoke Cafe serves local and western food, widely ranging from Kaya Toast sets and Mee Siam to Ribeye Steaks and Truffle Mushroom Pasta. Orders are placed at the counter, and you get a buzzer for the staff to call for you once your food is ready to be picked up.

The air-conditioning is a cool welcome after the long walk through the entire length of Terminal 2.

As I was there at tea time, I just had the Kaya Butter Toast set as a snack. This costs S$4.20, which makes it actually cheaper than other cafes in the airport terminals itself, excluding the Kopitiam food court and staff canteen.

The Kaya Butter Toast set comes with 2 slices of kaya butter toasts, 2 soft boiled eggs, and a choice of kopi or teh.

Hub & Spoke to Terminal 2

If heading back to the airport terminals, simply backtrack. This would be the view when cycling to Changi Airport.

The end of the cycling track is below Skytrain Station F on the Transit Area T2-T3 line.

A water cooler and benches are available below Skytrain Station F.

The very last stretch of park connector leading right into Terminal 2 Arrival Hall is on top of drain covers.

Here, you can head right in to Terminal 2 Arrival Hall once refurbishments are fully completed by 2024.

For now, access to the airport terminals are via Car Park 2A and Level 3 of Terminal 2.

Hub & Spoke to Nearest Bus Stop at Aft Changi Airport PTB2 (Stop ID: 95019)

If heading out of the airport immediately after the visit to Hub & Spoke, walking to Bus Stop 95019 Aft Changi Airport PTB2 is nearer than walking back to Terminal 2.

Follow the path to the Jurassic Mile and East Coast Park.

Cross the road via JetQuay.

A dinosaur preview of the Jurassic Mile sits between Hub & Spoke and JetQuay.

The Changi Airport Park Connector runs between Airport Boulevard and dnata Singapore.

Bus Stop 95019 Aft Changi Airport PTB2 is to the right of this traffic island.

Hub & Spoke to East Coast Park and Marina Bay

You can continue cycling all the way to East Coast Park, Marina Bay, and pretty much every park connector in Singapore via the Jurassic Mile.
