KTMB Supports Festival Peranakan Malaysia 2026, Strengthening Road to Rail Initiative and Cultural Tourism

KTM Berhad has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable travel and domestic tourism by supporting the Festival Peranakan Malaysia 2026, welcoming a delegation from the Malaysia Baba Nyonya Peranakan Association who travelled to Taiping aboard the Electric Train Service (ETS).

The 3-day festival, taking place from 3 to 5 July 2026, celebrates the rich heritage of Malaysia’s Peranakan community while highlighting the important role of rail travel in supporting cultural tourism and the national Road to Rail agenda.

Promoting Sustainable Rail Travel Through Cultural Tourism

KTMB’s support for Festival Peranakan Malaysia 2026 reflects its ongoing efforts to encourage greater use of rail transport as the preferred mode of travel across Malaysia. By promoting train travel to major cultural events, the national railway operator continues to strengthen domestic tourism while contributing to environmental sustainability and improved public transport accessibility.

Festival Peranakan Malaysia 2026 brings together Peranakan communities from across the country through a diverse programme of activities showcasing the history, traditions, arts, heritage, gastronomy and customs of the Baba and Nyonya community.

Smooth ETS Journey to Taiping

As part of its support for the event, KTMB ensured a seamless ETS journey for festival participants travelling from Pulau Sebang (Tampin) in Melaka to Taiping. Upon arrival at Taiping Railway Station, delegates received a warm welcome from KTMB representatives in appreciation of their decision to travel by rail.

The initiative demonstrates how rail transport provides a convenient, comfortable and environmentally friendly option for groups attending festivals, conferences and other major events throughout the country.

Rail Connects More Than Destinations

KTMB Chief Operating Officer Afzar Zakariya said that railways play a much broader role than simply transporting passengers between destinations.

“KTMB believes that the railway network not only connects destinations, but also connects communities, cultures and the nation’s heritage. The Festival Peranakan Malaysia 2026 delegation’s decision to travel by ETS demonstrates that rail transport is a comfortable, safe and sustainable choice in supporting cultural tourism and the Road to Rail initiative.”

He added that the unique heritage of the Baba and Nyonya community represents one of Malaysia’s most distinctive cultural identities and deserves greater international recognition.

“We hope to see more tourists choosing rail travel to explore the beauty of Malaysia and experience first-hand the country’s rich cultural diversity, in line with Visit Malaysia 2026.”

Supporting the Road to Rail Agenda

KTMB continues to encourage organisations, associations, community groups and event organisers to choose rail as their primary mode of transport when travelling to events across Malaysia.

Greater adoption of rail travel supports the expansion of public transport usage, helps reduce road congestion, lowers carbon emissions and strengthens the national Road to Rail agenda. Through initiatives such as Festival Peranakan Malaysia 2026, KTMB remains committed to developing a more sustainable, inclusive and connected transport system while supporting the continued growth of Malaysia’s cultural tourism sector.
