KTM Ekspres Rakyat Timuran Derails, Passengers and Crew Members Safe
KTM Berhad has confirmed that the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran (ERT) 27dn train traveling from Tumpat to JB Sentral experienced a derailment incident last night at 10:25 PM (10 April 2025). The derailment occurred at KM392.25, between Bukit Abu station and Dabong station, causing four wheels from one coach to slightly slip off the tracks.
Swift Response Ensures Passenger Safety
KTMB’s technical team promptly arrived at the scene to re-rail the affected coach and ensure passenger safety. The rescue operation was successfully completed by 6:30 PM today, allowing train services to resume normal operations later in the evening.
The train was carrying 376 passengers, all of whom, along with the crew, were reported safe. To ensure continued comfort and travel for passengers, KTMB arranged 10 buses to transport passengers from Kuala Krai Station to Dabong Station and Gua Musang Station, where they could continue their journey via train services.
Alternative Transport for Affected Services
Passengers on Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 26up (JB Sentral – Tumpat) were also accommodated with rail replacement buses for travel between Gua Musang, Dabong, and Kuala Krai to complete their journeys. Refreshments were provided at Gua Musang for passengers of Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 26up and at Kuala Krai Station for those on Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 27dn.
Service Disruptions
The derailment caused disruptions to several other train services:
- Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 26up (JB Sentral – Tumpat) terminated at Gua Musang Station, with bus transfers provided.
- Shuttle Timuran 51dn (Tumpat – Kuala Lipis) terminated at Kuala Krai Station.
- Shuttle Timuran 52up (Gua Musang – Tumpat) terminated at Dabong Station and returned to Kuala Lipis.
- Shuttle Timuran 53dn (Tumpat – Gua Musang) terminated at Kuala Krai Station.
- Shuttle Timuran 56up (Dabong – Tumpat) was cancelled.
- Shuttle Timuran 58up (Gua Musang – Tumpat) commenced operations from Kuala Krai Station.
