The Kuching Penambang, properly known as but rarely called the Perahu Tambang, is a traditional boat linking the two sides of the Sarawak River cutting downtown Kuching into the north residential area and south business area. For pedestrians crossing the Sarawak River, the Penambang is the most convenient way to get across the Sarawak River with the lack of bridges around Kuching. Heading back to Kuching Waterfront from The Brooke Gallery, I hopped on to the Penambang again.
Heading down the jetty where there was already a waiting boat. This one, however, looks quite modern.
Boarding the almost full Penambang with soldiers (?) after confirming with the Pak Tambang that he is going across.
Departing from Kampung Boyan Jetty.
A traditional Penambang alongside a floating barrier.
Turning away from Kampung Boyan Jetty after reversing. This boat is motor-powered from the aft.
The skyline of Riverside Majestic.
Interestingly, the Penambang didn’t head for The White Barouk, but turned towards the downtown area instead.
Didn’t know where I would be going then, but it didn’t matter since I’ll just be getting a Grab once I got across the Sarawak River.
Okay I think I know where I’m heading now.
Some “traditional” boats for a river cruise parked at a jetty on Kuching Waterfront. If you want true traditional, all you need to do is spend RM1 to a pakcik on the local jetty.
Passing by the MV Equatorial operating as the Sarawak River Cruise.
Approaching the jetty at Kuching Waterfront.
Looking back at my Penambang? Not sure if this is still called it since it has a motor and can travel pretty fast.
The fare of RM1 per person is to be paid directly to the Pak Tambang when disembarking from the Penambang.
The Penambang then proceeds to another destination to drop off other passengers.
Heading up to the shore from the floating pontoon.
Back unexpectedly on the central part of Kuching Waterfront.
Looking back at the jetty which I came up from.
Hmm, maybe next time?
Here, I walked towards the Square Tower to call for a Grab to the airport for my flight.
Overall, another pleasant ride on the Kuching Penambang to cross the Sarawak River, this time with a longer ride to Kuching Waterfront for a more scenic view for a cheap fare.
