Yui Rail Okinawa Urban Monorail 1000 Series 2-Car Trains

Yui Rail Okinawa Urban Monorail 1000 Series is the only rolling stock model that Okinawa Urban Monorail has in its fleet, and has been in use since the opening of the Okinawa Urban Monorail Line on 10 August 2003. There are currently 21 sets of 2-car trains, delivered in 7 batches since 2003 and up till 2020, and are the most common train formation of the Okinawa Urban Monorail.

The exterior of the 2-car trains across all 7 batches are mostly identical. There are 2 doors on each side of each train car.

Trains also come with full-body wraps of various themes and advertisements. The windows can also be fully covered with perforated decals, which is not ideal for a view out of the windows, though it helps to keep the strong Okinawan sun out.

12 seats are laid abreast in a longitudinal formation.

The best seats in the house can be found at the ends of the train.

A small bench of 2 seats face the driver’s cab for a forward or rear view out of the cab, depending on the direction of travel.

Even if a cab view isn’t your thing, these seats offer the most privacy, and also only 4 seats will face the direction of travel.

On some train sets, the end seats by the driver’s cab are replaced with a luggage rack and standing space instead.

A priority area is located along the gangway.

Seats are marked in red, with the equipment boxes labelled as a luggage rack.

A wheelchair space is also available, with 1 bench of 3 seats removed to accommodate the wheelchair.

Ventilation is provided by hopper windows. Air-conditioning is installed on board, but they were not switched on during my journey as the external temperature was room temperature. There are, however, central ventilation fans to move the air around.

A dynamic information screen is located on alternate sides of the doors. Information is displayed in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean.

A sticker route map is found on the opposite alternate side of the doors.

5 existing 2-car train sets will receive a new middle car, to be extended to 3-car trains. Combined with the 4 new 3-car train sets, there will be a total of 9 3-car train sets and 16 2-car train sets once the whole project is completed.
