East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Rolling Stock 东海岸衔接铁道車輛
The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) (东海岸衔接铁道) is a major infrastructure project currently under construction in Peninsular Malaysia. ECRL is a standard-gauge, single-track electrified railway designed to connect Port Klang on the west coast to Kota Bharu on the east coast, traversing the East Coast Economic Region states of Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan, facilitating easier movement of people and goods between the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia. The total planned length of the ECRL railway is approximately 665 kilometers. At speeds of passenger trains up to 160km/h, the ECRL will significantly cut travel time from Kota Bharu to ITT Gombak (Kuala Lumpur) to approximately 4 hours.
The ECRL is the largest economic cooperation project between Malaysia and China, with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) serving as the main contractor. It is a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aiming to strengthen regional connectivity and economic integration in Southeast Asia.
