Train Review: KTM Shuttle Timuran 56up from Pasir Mas to Tumpat by Train (61 Class DMU02 / 61102 Kota Bharu)

KTM Shuttle Timuran 56up Train from Pasir Mas to Tumpat (61 Class DMU02 / 61102 Kota Bharu)

To continue my journey to Singapore, I did not want to wait at Pasir Mas during my long transit. Since I had plenty of time, I had already planned to head up to Tumpat to catch the KTM Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 27dn from Tumpat to JB Sentral on the full route, and also to start from the end of the KTM East Coast Line. To get there, I booked my ticket on the KTMB Mobile app while on board the Mutiara Rentas Desa Bus 29 from Rantau Panjang to Pasir Mas for the next train, which happened to be Shuttle Timuran 56up.

Pasir Mas Railway Station

Heading into Pasir Mas Railway Station.

There is a canteen in Pasir Mas Railway Station, and since I had not had a proper lunch since I spent my lunchtime queuing at the border, I opted to get some food here while waiting for my Shuttle Timuran 56up train.

There are also ample seats to wait at beside the platform in front of the ticket counter.

The ticket counter is open closer to departure time. However, I already had my ticket on the KTMB Mobile app, so there was no need for me to queue up for a ticket.

My booked seat at Coach D Seat 3D.

61 Class DMU02 / 61102 Kota Bharu is configured as Version 1 without PV, with transverse seating throughout the train.

2 3-pin power sockets are located below between each pair of seats.

The previous passenger left lots of food crumbs on the floor for my “comfort”.

Tray tables are provided on the seat back in front.

The condensation between the broken vacuum window panes did not offer me a view out of the window except for condensed water droplets.

A universally-accessible toilet is located at Coach C.

Looks like my Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 27dn rake is being readied too. That’s early.

Tumpat Railway Station

My Shuttle Timuran 56up arrived at Tumpat Railway Station at 6.08pm – 14 minutes early.

The future Tumpat Railway Station building is still under construction.

Tumpat Railway Station currently operates out of a cabin container on the new high platform.

61 Class DMU02 / 61102 Kota Bharu was shunted back to the yard as quickly as it had arrived.

Here, I spotted some shunting and grabbed dinner at the food stall opposite Tumpat Railway Station while waiting for my Ekspres Rakyat Timuran 27dn back to JB Sentral and onwards to Singapore.
