Laos-China Railway (LCR) Launches Vientiane-Kunming International Train On 13 April 2023 • 中老铁路4月13日起开行昆明-万象国际旅客列车

Laos-China Railway (LCR/中老铁路) will commence international passenger train operations between Kunming South Railway Station and Vientiane Railway Station on Thursday, 13 April 2023 in time for Pi Mai or Lao New Year. Tickets will be sold by Laos-China Railway (LCR) and China Railway 铁路12306 from 11 April 2023 at 9am Beijing Time (GMT+8).

1 day train will depart in each direction in both directions daily, with stops at Kunming South, Pu’er, Xishuangbanna, Mohan, Boten (Moding), Luang Prabang (Langbolabang), Vang Vieng (Wanrong), and Vientiane (Wanxiang).

Train 动车 (Dongche) D887 departs from Kunming South at 8.08am Beijing Time (GMT+8) and will arrive in Vientiane at 7.38pm Laos Time (GMT+7). Train 动车 (Dongche) D888 departs from Vientiane at 8.08am Laos Time (GMT+7) and arrives in Kunming at 7.38pm Beijing Time (GMT+8).

The International Passenger Trains will use the Chinese Fuxing 复兴号CR200J and Laotian Lancang 澜沧号LCR200J push-pull EMUs interchangeably, with a maximum operating speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

The Laos-China Railway Vientiane-Kunming International Trains will operate with separate immigration and customs clearance for each country. Chinese immigration and customs clearance will take place at Mohan, and Laotian immigration and customs clearance will take place at Boten (Moding).

Do note that visa-on-arrival facilities for both China and Laos are expected to NOT be available at either border stations at first instance. You should settle your China and/or Laos visa before using the Laos-China Railway (LCR) Vientiane-Kunming International Train.
