The reopening of Malaysia’s borders from 1 March 2022 as previously announced by the National Recovery Council (NRC) will not proceed. Malaysia Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has said that the NRC announcement on 8 February 2022 by chairman and former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is only a proposal and it needs to be discussed in the government, apart from getting a recommendation from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
UPDATE: Malaysia’s International Borders Will Be Reopened Before Hari Raya Aidilfitri In May 2022
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri said this is also to ensure Malaysia’s’s readiness to receive foreign visitors as well as the government’s ability to overcome COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.
This was reported by Sinar Harian from the announcement at a press conference after attending the Barisan Nasional (BN) Machinery Launching Ceremony for the Ledang Parliament in Tangkak on 11 February 2022.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri said that the government’s priority now is to balance health issues and needs reopening of national borders which involves tourism as a major industry.
He also informed that the reopening of the country’s borders is in the government’s plans, but not in the near future due to the constraints of several factors.
“We don’t just want to help the tourism sector, but we also want to take care of the rakyat because we don’t want tourists to come and carry the infection. That’s more dangerous. Let the MOH do a more detailed study.
“Although I have to say that in the end, it (the national border) needs to be opened as well, we will consider (opening the border) because we want to balance the tourism industry with the health of the people.
“The MOH will also do detailed planning and propose to the cabinet, only so far the border is still closed and there has been no discussion for us to open the border,” he said.

What a joke. Giving all the poor small traders a spark of hope only to take it away.
It’s normal to have all these BS in Malaysia. It’s just full of it.
It is just like most other countries. Making up rules as they go along while the common man suffers. It sucks.
Surely something will benefit certain people with the prolonged closing of borders and previous lockdowns, they’re obvious. Who cares if the rakyat suffer? Myhiddin says something, Hishamudin says something else and then PM says another, everyone trying to show superiority above another, such a shame for Malaysia in the eyes of the world. But again, who cares?
I care when the rich make decisions for the poor and act like ‘they’ care.
I also care because I would love to visit Malaysia again and again but think there are just too many restrictions on travel.
Different story if I want to go out and catch Covid but at 72 years of age and a smoker I would be paying a terrible price 🙁
Funny
When opening Malaysia now date is 2 march please give update
