SRT Ordinary 367 & AERA1 City Airport Rail Link from Bangkok Hua Lamphong to Lat Krabang and Suvarnabhumi Airport by Train

SRT Ordinary 367 & AERA1 City Airport Rail Link from Bangkok Hua Lamphong to Lat Krabang and Suvarnabhumi Airport

Heading to Suvarnabhumi Airport from Hua Lamphong to catch my flight back to Singapore, I decided to take the SRT Eastern Line instead of the regular MRT and Airport Rail Link (ARL) route as I had bit of extra time and I could depart from the grand Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station technically back to Singapore even after 19 January 2023. At a combined train fare of 21 Baht (~S$0.81) from my hotel to to the airport, this is also probably Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport’s cheapest airport transfer.

Trains from Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station especially to the north of Bangkok are quite spaced out now due to the move of long distance trains to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. However, SRT Eastern Line trains fully remain at Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station.

With a lack of long distance trains now, the waiting hall is quite empty since Ordinary and Commuter passengers tend to appear just in time for their train. Like me now.

My ticket for the SRT Ordinary 367 from Bangkok Hua Lamphong to Lat Krabang which costs 6 Baht.

The grand platforms at Hua Lamphong are now quite empty with the absence of long distance trains.

My Ordinary 367 would be departing from Platform 6.

Most of the Ordinary 367 was formed of ex-Queensland coaches, with a BTC76 attached on both ends of the rake probably acting as coupling adapters.

Alsthom ALS 4153 leads my Ordinary 367 out of Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station.

The ventilation on board the ex-Queensland coaches isn’t great, and regular passengers know this too as seats on board the normal BTC76 were taken up already.

I managed to find a pair seat with a window by flipping over some seat backs, so that works.

The legroom on board the pair seat on the ex-Queensland coaches. This wouldn’t be ideal if flipped in a facing bay of 4.

I could have alighted here to change to the AERA1 City Airport Rail Link train to Suvarnabhumi Airport, but my AERA1 City Airport Rail Link fare would have been 45 Baht. And since I’m on a moving train already, I might as well keep moving as far as possible for cheap.

Conclusion

The SRT Eastern Line and AERA1 City Airport Rail Link combination is probably Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport’s cheapest airport transfer at a combined train fare of only 21 Baht (~S$0.81) from Hua Lamphong to Suvarnabhumi Airport. If you have sufficient time before your flight and have a bit of extra time to spare, and the SRT Eastern Line timetable fits with your flight schedule, this is a great local experience to try out and for a cheap price too.
