Sembulan Railway Station (or Sekretariat Railway Station as formerly known) is classified as a minor station on the Sabah State Railway, but is actually the closest station to downtown Kota Kinabalu. It is located near the Sembulan Roundabout along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, opposite the Sabah State Mosque. As such, many passengers alight here from the morning train, and depart from here on the evening train, rather than from the main Tanjung Aru Railway Station.
Sembulan Railway Station is a simple structure with just one track, a short platform and ticket counter.
The single platform is sufficient to fit 1 coach and the door of the next coach of the CRRC Ziyang – Nanjing Puzhen Push-Pull Train.
As the doors of the CRRC Ziyang – Nanjing Puzhen Push-Pull Train are manually unlocked and opened by the train staff, usually, only one door of the front-most coach will be opened for passengers.
The Sembulan Railway Station platform is sheltered both horizontally and vertically to shield passengers from the glare of the setting evening sun.
