ScotRail Ayrshire Coast Line Train from Glasgow Central to Ayr
The next leg of my Rail & Sail to Belfast and Ireland journey would be by ScotRail Ayrshire Coast Line 2K71 from Glasgow Central to Ayr. This is an earlier arrival into Ayr than advertised on the journey planner, but I decided to board this train anyway to have a bit more time in Ayr just in case there were any delays, ensuring that I will make the coach connection on to Cairnryan.
National Rail offers a Rail & Sail to Belfast and Ireland Ordinary Promotion ticket which is an all in one ticket for rail from any Scottish station, coach link between Ayr and Cairnryan, and ferry travel to Belfast (via Cairnryan) with Stena Line. Regular 26-30 Railcard concessions apply on this ticket, offering a 34% discount off adult fare, which is perfect for me to head to Belfast from Edinburgh by train, bus, and ferry, all in a single train ticket.

After heading out of the ticket gates, I see that my Ayrshire Coast Line 2K71 train would be departing from Platform 14.

Platform 14 is on the far-western end of Glasgow Central, through another gate line.

There’s Platform 14, but beware.

My Ayrshire Coast Line 2K71 train to Ayr is formed of the front train.

The rear train nearest to where I’m standing is for a different train service.

Do not board the first train that you see. This is the train to Gourock where I’m not going to.

A sign clealy marks where the front train is, if it’s not already obvious with the decoupled and different class of trains.

My Ayrshire Coast Line 2K71 train is the front train, formed of a single set of 3-car Class 380 Desiro EMU.

Power sockets can be found under the tables.

A tray table is provided at the back of airline seats.
