Bus Review: SRT Free Shuttle Bus from Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station by Bus

SRT Free Shuttle Bus from Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus is a semi-rail replacement bus service plying between Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station. With the opening of Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, all Rapid, Express, and Special Express trains terminate at the new station, with only Ordinary and Commuter trains continuing on the old line to Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station. To mitigate the inconvenience for passengers who would actually like to get to Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station from Rapid, Express, or Special Express trains, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) provides free shuttle buses linking the 2 stations going by expressway.

Rapid 170

I had arrived at Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal by Rapid 170 from Hat Yai Junction Railway Station.

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus departs from the porch outside the exit nearest to the MRT Blue Line on the Bang Sue Junction Railway Station.

Information for the SRT Free Shuttle Bus is displayed at the dedicated bus stop just at the end of the sheltered walkway from the station exit gate.

My SRT Free Shuttle Bus departed from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal on time at 9.00am.

Waiting at the traffic light to turn right and out of the vicinity of Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal.

The first battery-electric locomotive in Thailand developed by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and Energy Absolute Plc (EA) was stabling just in front of the road junction.

Heading through the Phahonyothin Toll Plaza immediately after exiting from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to enter the Si Rat Expressway. The bus does not need to pay the toll, and drove past the toll booth behind the front taxi.

Heading up to the Si Rat Expressway.

My welcome to Bangkok with a traffic jam on the Si Rat Expressway.

Taking the exit to Rama IV Road for Hua Lamphong.

There was another jam on the highway exit due to the traffic light ahead.

Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station

My SRT Free Shuttle Bus arrived at Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station at 9.22am, making this a journey of 22 minutes due to the traffic jams.

I headed into Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station to arrive in Bangkok properly in the grand old dame.

The central platforms now houses preserved locomotives on display, with Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station now functioning as a living museum with both preserved and operational trains beside each other in this very operational station.

Conclusion

The non-stop SRT Free Shuttle Bus service is a good rail replacement bus service provided by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) with the reduction of trains on the Bang Sue-Hua Lamphong sector, and provides for a comfortable and air-conditioned non-stop journey on the Si Rat Expressway. Despite the traffic jams, the 22-minute journey time on the SRT Free Shuttle Bus still beat the railway and MRT.
