AirAsia AK6422 is one of many frequent flights from Johor Bahru to Penang, with 7 flights operating on a Saturday. I picked this late afternoon departure to get across the Causeway safely with minimal risk of missing my flight, and to pair it with my return flight from Alor Setar so that I needn’t head up overland by train or bus. Since this a domestic flight booked early, I paid just RM67.48 (~S$22.16) for it, making it cheaper than a train or bus anyway.
As a small terminal, both departures and arrival are located on the same floor, with departures on the left of the terminal building.

As I saw the boarding words flashed across the departure screens, I made my way to the gate.
Unfortunately, I may have been trolled by the screens this time.

In no time, the plane hit a heavy cloud cover, so it was a bumpy ride up to cruising altitude.
The ascend was rather bumpy even when sitting near the wing. Guess it might be a stormy day for Johor and Melaka later.

Once act cruising altitude, the seatbelt signs were switched off and my meal was served.
I pre-booked the usual AirAsia Pak Naseer’s Nasi Lemak for RM10.60 (inclusive of SST, since it’s a domestic flight) because I couldn’t think of what to order for this flight.

Looks like access to the terminal building is now by gently sloping ramps. That’s not bad.
Inside the terminal building, with the passengers heading for Johor Bahru preparing for boarding already. As this is the domestic part of the terminal, there are no issues in mixing the departing and arriving passengers.

As I had no check-in bags to reclaim, I headed straight through here to the exit.
Out of the baggage reclaim area in less than 30 seconds.
The arrival screen shows my plane landing at 6.55pm instead, rather than the Flightradar24 recorded information of 7.02pm.
From here, I headed out to the driveway to catch the Rapid Penang 401E bus to the city.
Overall, yet another fuss-free on-time AirAsia flight, despite being a cheap domestic flight.
