LRT3 Shah Alam Line Opening On 30 September 2025
The Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) Shah Alam Line in the Klang Valley is on track to begin operations on 30 September 2025, following after the project being handed over to Prasarana Malaysia Bhd by the turnkey contractor on 31 July 2025.
According to a written response from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) posted on the Parliament website on Wednesday, the LRT3 Shah Alam Line from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia line is now 98.16% complete.
The MOT also detailed that rigorous testing, without passengers, will be carried out in two phases to guarantee the safety and reliability of the LRT3 service. These tests will assess the rail system’s compliance, durability, and safety, as well as adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs). The main contractor for the project, Setia Utama LRT3 Sdn Bhd, will conduct a trial run (TR) concurrently with a fault-free run (FFR) test. The estimated duration for these tests is 75 days. The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will then evaluate the FFR test results, focusing on safety, standard compliance, and specific rail system guarantees.
This information was provided in response to a question from Azli Yusof (PH-Shah Alam), who sought updates on the LRT3 project’s status, the duration of the trial run, and its progress towards the Q3 2025 operational target.
The MOT anticipates that the TR/FFR tests will commence in mid-April and conclude by the end of June 2025.
Upon successful completion and APAD approval of the TR and FFR tests, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the licensed rail operator, will conduct a trial operation (TO) with technical support from the main contractor. This TO test is expected to last 60 days, running from July to the end of August 2025.
