SRT Free Shuttle Bus from Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station to Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal by Bus

SRT Free Shuttle Bus from Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station to Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus is a relay service provided by State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) from Hua Lamphong Railway Station to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. Embarking on the new journey from Bangkok to Singapore by train from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, I decided to get the SRT Free Shuttle Bus from Hua Lamphong as it’s where my hotel is, and the SRT Free Shuttle Bus timetable fit with my KiHa 183 spotting schedule when I needed to head on to the Red Line first for trainspotting.

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus picks passengers up from Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station’s taxi stand on the outer lane.

The timetable of the SRT Free Shuttle Buses are displayed at the bus stop.

There are 2 SRT Free Shuttle Bus routes available. Buses depart every 15 to 60 minutes from 4.30am to 11.00pm.

The blue air-conditioned bus is a direct express service between Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Hua Lamphong Railway Station only, while the orange air-conditioned bus or red non-air-conditioned bus is a stopping service serving railway stations and halts between the 2 main railway stations.

Needless to say, I got on the blue air-conditioned direct express bus.

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus departed from Hua Lamphong Railway Station right on time at 12.00pm.

Si Rat Expressway

The entrance to the Si Rat Expressway is just after Hua Lamphong Railway Station, which makes for a speedy access.

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus travels mainly on the Si Rat Expressway for this express bus service.

The SRT Free Shuttle Bus drops passengers off at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Gate 4 which is nearest to the long distance train ticket counters and boarding areas. Do note that this is not the boarding point for the SRT Free Shuttle Bus.

My SRT Free Shuttle Bus arrived at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal at 12.11pm, making this a total journey time of only 11 minutes. Much faster than the railway or the MRT Blue Line.

Conclusion

The non-stop SRT Free Shuttle Bus service is a good relay service provided by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) with the reduction of trains on the Bang Sue-Hua Lamphong sector. Aside from being a free alternative, the journey time is also sped up with the non-stop express service using the Si Rat Expressway for a fast journey, with journey times beating the railway and MRT.

The low hourly frequency outside of off-peak times do need to be taken note of as the faster journey combined with the long frequency may not work out if you have to wait for a long time for the SRT Free Shuttle Bus, and paying for the MRT Blue Line or an Ordinary or Commuter train if available may be a better alternative instead.
