Day 34: Angkor Small Circuit – Thommanon & Chau Say Tevoda

The journey continues, passing by the Prasat Suor Prat, a series of twelve towers, along Victory Way.

Exiting Angkor Thom through Victory Gate.

Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda is located along the east-west Victory Way, 500 meters from Victory Gate, with Thommanon on the north and Chau Say Tevoda on the south. Although it looks like it was built together as a pair, it is two separate temples, with Chau Say Tevoda being built later. However, the two temples were possibly once located together in the same compound.

Thommanon

The architecture of Thommanon is similar to Angkor Wat, with the two temples being built around the same time. The temple consists of one central tower with a library by the side.

Crossing Victory Way, separating Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda, with the Victory Gate seen in the background.

Chau Say Tevoda

Once looking more dilapidated than Thommanon, Chau Say Tevoda has now been restored, and actually looks better than Thommanon today.

Footprint-wise, it is similar to Thommanon.

However, there is a causeway leading to the Siem Reap River from the temple (which no longer flows through here).

There are some restored statues as well, which devotees still come by to pray to.

Next stop: Ta Keo
